Well, I believe this post just nailed that board down flat.

"Brother" has different meanings, depending on usage.
Acts 2:29 KJV
Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day.
Peter addressed unregenerate kinsmen as "brothers".
Acts 3:17 KJV
And now, brethren, I wot that through ignorance ye did it, as did also your rulers.
Again he addresses the ones he claims murdered Christ as "brothers".
Acts 13:26 KJV
Men and brethren, children of the stock of Abraham, and whosoever among you feareth God, to you is the word of this salvation sent.
Paul did likewise, addressing unregenerate kinsmen and fellow Judean citizens as "brothers".
So, the term has a range of application. Kinsmen, as descended from a common ancestor, are "brethren". This is simply a term of gracious address and etiquette, like "friend", applied to distant relatives.
The meaning of course can be narrowed to members of the same faith. The difference depends on the context and the intention.

Re: Apostolics of Grant Parish/ Br. Lane Creech
I was just calling him Br. Creech because that's the title of the forum and he's been referenced by many as such throughout the replies here.
But technically, he isn't a brother I suppose. He is deliberately not preaching truth when he knows better.

I do tend to agree, and that's how I've treated those who left the faith in the past, including a former pastor and his family.
The previous post did momentarily make me stop and wonder though: should we consider them still our brother in the Lord - even though they've turned their back on the truth - under the assumption we can yet guide them back?

Re: Apostolics of Grant Parish/ Br. Lane Creech
Did the early church even address one another with the title brother or sister? It is definitely used in churches today with the intent of recognition of status in the church. I find that it can be a source of unnecessary offense. In the body we should treat one another as brother and sisters. That is a lot more important then simply calling one another brother and sister. I see all mankind as brothers in ancestry. I have called total strangers brother before in conversation and it had nothing to do with spirituality. If you are saying it recognize church status then I see where it can be viewed as dishonest.

And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved BROTHER Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;

Hence the title goes with the feelings.

The brotherhood of man? You are transferred from that brotherhood into becoming placed in the lineage of the brotherhood of Christ

Again, don't bro me if you don't know me. Secular people in the secular world, have been known to call each other bro. "What it be bro!?" "Hey Joe, have you seen my bro?" "I got to go, and talk with my bro." "Mom, I'm going to out in the snow, and look for my bro."

That was the initial point being made.

I realize the scripture refor to the family of God as brothers, but what I am not sure of, did that habitually use the word brother as a title before there real names.
