HAHAHAHA You are clueless to hyperbole and rhetoric.

"A False Gospel makes a mockery of the cross." That doesn't mean it's an imagined demon laughing at the cross...

Oh yeah... I'm crude as you go back to your favorite racists, bigoted caricature of poor folks and talk about the "gubment."

Re: The poor in America

I'm talking with a guy who's life is in a shambles but what I don't want to do is promise him that if he comes to Christ that will "fix" all his problems. I'm gentley trying to help him see that his need is one of reconciliation.

Good call, Dave.

That's a false Gospel too (Come to Jesus, and you'll get rich, have no problems, be perfect and have a Colgate smile all the rest of your life).

You hit it on the head -- reconciliation. And it's amazing how much context changes when we have peace with God, when we believe that He is for us, when we truly believe that He is in control, that He is great, that He is glorious and that He is gracious. It changes everything!

Empathy. Help him understand that you understand his situation.

Thinking more of this situation...

Do you feel the Spirit is drawing him?

Just being there for him right now would go a long way. But keying in to his heart, and letting him know that Jesus loves him so much.. (which is just empty words without the context of the Story)....

Your definitely right that his need "is one of reconciliation." Our happiness is invested into the things that happen to us as long as we don't have a Savior.

Our primary goal should be to get them saved

Apostolic is defined on AFF as:

  1. There is One God. This one God reveals Himself distinctly as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
  2. The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
  3. Every sinner must repent of their sins.
  4. That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
  5. That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
  6. The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

Primary goal with what? Our mission in general? Our mission in general is to make disciples.

But I don't love on people because I'm trying to "achieve a goal." I love them because that's exactly what Jesus did to me and to you. I love them because He is love, and our heart breaks for what breaks him. Our love is sincere. It doesn't have ill motives. We are patient with them, because He is patient with us. Charity is always dependent on reciprocation --- "I'll give you a meal, but you have to attend church with me." Compassion is unconditional. "I'll love you, would love for you to know the Jesus that loves me, but, even if you don't, I'll still love you."

Both ways we are looking to make disciples, but our compassion is not pushed by that, it's pushed by the radiating love of the Spirit that floods from the graciousness in our hearts.

I say this as a distinction because I've seen it both ways. In the end, these efforts aren't competing with each other. We share the Gospel with more than words

See Coadie, this is exactly what I'm talking about...

Don't appear shocked when you get called out for your ridiculousness.

Go ahead and ignore just about all of scripture, in it's teaching for how we should care for the poor. Good job. Just get them tongue-talking. Forget their real needs. And if we have to, let's throw them some bread and a marketing tract if that will help grow our churches. TIC

No bible verses?

You don't seem to have compassion.

Luke 24:46 says to teach Repentence and remissiion of sins.

Stephen was feeding widows while being broken in for ministry.

Yesterday you are talking up gubment. They are shutting down.

"he that winneth souls is wise"
