Rom 6:3 (KJV) Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?

What caused Jesus' death? Wasn't it the shedding of His blood? So if I'm baptized into His death wouldn't I be baptized into His blood?

I know Nico ... didn't understand ... but Jesus is saying DUH ... I'VE PROMISED THIS THROUGH THE PROPHETS ... THAT THE NEXT CONVENANT WOULD BE A CIRCUMCISION OF THE HEART DONE BY THE SPIRIT...

You're right scripture does interpret itself ... but you point to Acts 2:38 as the scripture it points to ... yet Peter ... does quote THE PROPHETS ALSO ... when examining this rebirth ....

John 3 is not a puzzle ... it unlocks from many directions ....
To your point Dan. Since we are buried with him in baptism. Romans 6:4

Why does John 3:5 say except a man be born of water and of the spirit.

How can a man be born in the act of being buried?

I thought we were buried in baptism not born....

Baptism is in likeness of Christ death....

The new birth comes in the likeness of this resurrection through the Holy Ghost...

How can one arise to the "newness of life" without dying to the old man and buryinig him?

I'm not sure what you mean by a vertical rite, but the Spirit of God moves when we call on Jesus' name in water baptism.

28 For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision that which is outward in the flesh. 29 But he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that which is of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the letter; and his praise is not from men, but from God.

This is just a question? I know how I have been taught.

How in John 3:5 born of water.

Romans 6:4 buried with him in baptism.

I understand one has to be buried to be born again.

But you are not born at baptism.

You receive the HG in the likeness of his resurrection.

Which is the newness of life...

I believe baptism is essential.
