Really? So all gifts are increases too? Sorry I don't get that. Can you back that up with any scripture? Increase was something they worked for in the scripture, from the harvest to spoils of war.

I think it depends on the structure of the given church. Like I said, I'm more of an organic house churcher. Tithing is a little much for that structure.

Couldn't harevest/spoils be gifts from God?

Every good thing is a gift from God, but men still have to plow the fields for harvest, just like we have to work for our money.

Re: Tithe-vs-Paying Your Bills
I think many fail to really examine the law regarding tithing. Again, trades weren't tithed for the money they brought in. The "increase" was strictly relating to the increase in harvest and herds. People fail to realize that Judaism has been around for thousands of hears and Jewish commentary explains these things. Please note... the tithe was even suspended by the Jews for free will giving to synagogues after the destruction of the temple and the loss of the Levitical priesthood.
The tithe is more akin to an ancient agrarian land tax than it is a "spiritual" practice as so many Christians see it today.
Today some Jews give 10% as a gift to the local synagogue or to charity. But they are not bound by it.

I heard of a man that gave 10% of his garden increase to help feed the pastor's family.

That's not a bad thing. That's wonderful!
However, keep in mind, his brother who has a garden and couldn't provide the same isn't in sin.
