yes over the pulpit...if someone was doing something wrong instead of taking them aside and speaking to them we all got a lecture...Sunday after Sunday I was beginning to think it was a recording...redundunt...subtle hints about things...NEVER just coming out and saying what they mean....they played big mind games....and they still are!

Another thought...
I posted a lot of these things a long time ago....on another unnamed forum...and I got beat up pretty good, because many did not either believe me or thought I was just bitter....I hope that now you all can see that this is a problem in some churches....
The thing is I believe that in the UPC(which is all I know about)...the very structure of the church promotes this kind of pastoring...with the exclusionary attitude that prevails..."we are the true church, and the only church" "We are the only ones that have the truth, and are saved" I think this helps breed this sort of situation...
I see another thread going about why don't Apostolic smile? They are to tired, and many are very depressed especially the women...I see them often treated as second class citizens instead of a precious treasure! Women deserve more than be a barer of children and cleaner of toilets....
I am NOT a feminist and I love being home taking care of my husband and son when he was growing up, but my hubby thinks nothing of pitching in and helping...whatever needs to be done...it is OUR home not mine...I have watched men sit and be served like kings....with little appreciation and little respect...I love being a wife and mother, and I love my husband being a fine man...which he is...but I have heard over and over that he is an uncommon man, because of his kind and gentle ways and his love and respect for women!....Don't know where all that came from but its just part of what my experience was....

This reminds me of a few years ago, our church had several new families that were coming over to our church (because of the closing of their original church). The church that they were coming out of had a lot of the same tendencies that I have seen discussed in this thread. Very much a dictator type pastor.
These families had our pastor over for dinner, and when it was time to eat, all of the women stood back, and the men started to form a line to get their food. The new pastor stood back and wouldn't get his plate until the women, (who had prepared the food) went through the line. The other men didn't know what to do, they all finally stepped back. I think they got the message.

I see there's some healing going on up in this place!
I think it's good to talk these things out and let it go so that you aren't bitter!
My goodness - - I'd hate to have to be some of these guys on judgment day!

How is the world....can you get wrong information in the Bible? I think they are afraid you will start questioning them and find they are not right about everything....

Yes it is good...and yes judgement day...oh my...
The question I asked my sister the other day....HOW can two people read the same Bible and get two different understandings of scriptures...why sometimes do you read it and not get anything and other times it speaks right to your ...that is why I don't know how anyone can proclaim they have the ONLY TRUTH....The only answer....I love love God's word and how it speaks to me and how He saved me and how he brought me out of the world and then out of that church!

I know it is a very old patriarchal tradition, but the Bible tells men to love their wives like Christ loves the church....I don't see that too much...I see the part about SUBMIT...but it also says submit to one another...
