BD - Can you name "some business administrator in Hazlewood?" Can you identify anyone on the staff there that fits this description? I know that there are a few accounting positions - but they are NOT tasked with tracking you down and taking your missions pledge to use for their private yacht. I remember one bean counter - who's still there today, and he prided himself and the WEC on its efficiency. The numbers and budget figures are published every year at General Conference. Can you imagine the uproar if anything even approaching what you alleged would take place?

When I worked there I knew just about everbody in the place, from the guy who cleaned the bathrooms to the GS. Nobody from that time fit your description, and I doubt things have changed that much since.

Where are you getting your information Bob D? If that was the case I don't see how a missionary would even be able to stay a whole term in their field of labour - particularly in some places.

Unless things have changed a whole lot then your 1/3 figure seems "off". How did you arrive at that anyhow?

I have looked up "Hazlewood" and don't seem able to find it on mapquest.

Does mis-spelling indicate a lack of intelligence?

Or just ignorance and apathy?

Until fairily recent, the FM dept took only ten percent of designated offerings for the foreign missionaries. I think that has been raised somewhat since then. But, rest assured, it is not nearly 1/3rd.

Shoot, and I am thinking "Pharisaical" when I should be thinking "levitical".

Crazy - the ideas people get sometimes.

In regard to FMD and the "illegal" 10%. The missionaries never complained near as much as the pastors. Interesting, eh?

The missionaries mostly just felt thankful and blessed to be part of such a great Foreign Missions program and to be taken care of as well as we were. We always felt blessed and among the crowd we fellowshipped with there was great appreciation for FMD overall.

Sure, shop talk went on amongst missionaries and there are always things and people less than perfect but that's par for the course. There were things that could be improved then and I'm sure it's still the same today, but overall we were very well taken care of.

So ... there ya go.

I am continually amused by those who think they know the inner workings of religious bodies who, in fact, know absolutely zilch.

We may have a myriad of problems, but FM is definitely not one of them.
