With all due respect, the stats and facts on internet security and safety for the family can be heard on Christian/non-Christian radio stations, gleaned from the self-help section at Barnes, or accessed…online.

What stands out dramatically is the method of the speaker’s delivery. As you can see he wields a mighty weapon in his hand. He is elevated (quite literally) above the congregants and completely controls the course of the conversation. This is precisely how it’s done my friends. Microphone. Monologue. Monopoly.

Had someone been able to respectfully object to the portion where he vilifies the notion of “debate,” his sleight of hand technique with the scriptures would have sounded as pitiful as his condemnation of an individual’s right to inquire.

People want to debate? On AFF?

Do people not realize that sometimes the best way to learn more and to motivate good study is to discuss and debate? Or that sometimes a person might play devil's advocate just to consider something from a different angle? Unless thinking is a bad thing (haha) I see nothing wrong with debates and discussions. Sometimes the way a person may go about debating might be less than desirable, but a discussion or debate itself isn't a bad thing. We don't live in an insulated underground bunker, closed off from the world, after all. We're going to face those questions sooner or later, on our own and in person. A little practice and thought provoking discussion ahead of time isn't all bad. Also, yes there are people on here who've left an organization or a church and others who've never been a part of one. Should there be no witness to these people? Does God not love them too? How does the author know who is witnessing and who is being witnessed to on a forum like this? If he believes a discussion board is full of backsliders and Trinitarians, shouldn't he rejoice? What an outreach opportunity, after all!

Our way of debating, our means and motives may sometimes be off, but the debates themselves are positive.

If he wants to warn people of a real danger, perhaps it should be that in any internet scenario, you don't see the actual person on the other side of the screen. You aren't sitting in a room with a person. Because of that, the normal ways to judge OPs are missing. When I got on this board, I was UC. For the first time in years, I had to determine who I could trust based on something other than sleeve length or hair styles... things that don't easily show themselves in typed messages. I wasn't convinced of a more moderate stance through the debates, but the attitudes of the debaters.

Kids could lie on registrations, but not many would want to join this group. Social networking sites like Facebook and texting seem much more popular than discussion boards for teens and tweens. I seriously doubt he was half as worried about kids as he was questions and critical thinking in adults, however.
