Berk, that is not a pic of a poof.

A poof was a giant teased ball of curly hair poking out from the forehead of a Pentecostal woman.

Many times the rest of the hairdo was reserved and pulled back into a bun. That placed that much more emphasis on the "poof". I ran across some pics of my nieces from the poof area and had a good laugh awhile back.
