Re: Cakes

I've printed out the recipe for the Black Forest Cheesecake. It sounds absolutely delightful. Have you made it yet?

Missed this one. It does look great for company. I especially like that it uses all homemade ingredients.

Thanks for answering. I thought it was a trick question.

That would be totally awesome.

Haven't made it yet. I forgot about it until the thread was bumped. Now I am going to make it - maybe in September. Have three pieces of furniture finished - YES! Two to go and then I load up and will be gone most of August.

I'll let you know when I do make it.

I'm the only one in my family who likes cheesecake, and it happens to be my favorite kind of cake. So, if I make it, I need to make it and share with others, so I am not tempted to eat it all by myself, lol! I'll let you know if I get brave enough to try this cheesecake... and you do the same... good luck on finishing your furniture! Hard to believe August is almost here, and school shopping, and all that has to start again!

Should finish my last two chairs tomorrow - hopefully.

Yes, I will let you know when I make it and how it turned out.

This is funny. So, I have an excellent cheesecake recipe - posted here somewhere. My daughter wanted a cheesecake for her birthday. So, I'm in a hurry and I am thinking, "She won't know the difference." I buy a store bought mix and she was furious after tasting it. That was about 6 or 8 years ago, I think, and she has never let me forget it. Hahahahahahahaha!

There are just not enough good recipes to hide the box mix flavor.

I was watching Cake Boss - The Next Great Baker. One of the contestants had a very special recipe that called for a box mix. Well, of course, Buddy could taste it right away and yelled at him. That's what I wanted to do to Honesty Davis. CAKE MIX?!!!

Re: Cakes

I hate cake mixes too! Homemade is always soooo much better, and worth the time (although I have made my fair share of mixes in the past). Since realizing how much high fructose corn syrup is in everything, I have begun to try to make as much of everything we eat from fresh, organic ingredients. I try to stay out of the middle sections of the grocery store aisles as much as possible.

That's funny about your daughter and the mix!!! LOL! Reminds me of my son. Sometimes I try to sneak in a package of instant potatoes for supper when I'm running short on time. No matter how much extra salt, pepper, milk, and butter I add to the mix to try to get it to taste "like homemade mashed potatoes".. he ALWAYS figures it out.

So I agree... no mix can EVER compare with the real thing!

Re: Cakes

Take a picture of your furniture if you get a chance when you finish. Are you selling them, or making them for someone?
