Pretty much it.

That's the difference.
Now, go rub your hubby's feet and stop this silliness!

He doesn't like me to rub his feet - thank God!!!

People of Asian descent were once called "Orientals" but now insist on being called, "Asians."
Our response? "Fine, no problem. Whatever you would like is good for me" and the problem is solved.
Whether one is of the opinion that "Boy" is good or bad, if it feels bad to the person it's being said to, then it's bad. It seems pretty simple to just leave it at that.
Rush was deliberately pushing a button. He knows exactly what he's doing and he's using the word in a way that he can try to claim he wasn't using it.

I didn't say it shouldn't be or isn't offensive. I'm just saying that I'm not sure it always is. You can call anyone "boy" and not always mean something by it. I just didn't know it was a standard about blacks.
AND I'm saying that because everyone is calling Obama childish, I didn't think anything of Rush calling him a boy. Mainly, because he goes on to say, "this man-child". That is basically calling him immature and inexperienced.
SO, I'm wondering if we are making a big deal out of nothing.

But do you see the possibility that Rush created this criticism just so he could skirt as close to the edge as he could? My goodness, he knows the ramifications of calling a black man a "Boy". If he wasn't trying to do this intentionally (trying to skirt the edge and create a media storm), he wouldn't come within a country mile of calling him this. He would simply critique his inexperience and just say that he's behaving in an immature fasion. True?

Come to my neck of the woods and call a black guy "boy" and I think you'll get a new understanding.

Well, I'm in California and I'll guarantee you it would be the same here.

NOW,
I just don't know. It doesn't look like it to me. He has said, so many times, that Obama is immature, not educated nor experienced enough to be President. Consensus all around on that one. So, to call him a "boy" or "man-child" seems to fit his ongoing dialogue.
BTW, it appears that his comment was made back in 2009, so I'm wondering if he didn't get fall out then, what's the big deal today?
"Petulant Marxist Child" would probably be more accurate. LOL!

I suppose it can take some time for these things to surface. Every time someone runs for office, we find out things they said in 1958.
If Rush says he's being childish, fine whatever. But he should have stopped there.
