The one thing that unites every last one of us is that we will personally account to God for our own selves. He won't care what we have (or had) to say about other people, assuming we would have enough pride or gall to try to point out the faults in others, while our own misery stands before God.

I'm in a hurry again. As is my way, I log out and then do a once over to make sure I didn't miss or overlook anything. I'm very bad about not being thorough when I'm in a hurry. I was in such a hurry yesterday that I totally read over one of Jeffrey's posts. Got around to that this morning. LOL!
I wanted to say that I did love this part posted above. Especially what Sis. Wanda Philips said, "We're all just a little bit pitiful." Ain't that the truth!!! LOL!!
Have a good weekend. I better get going!

Did you want me to brandish a sword my friend? I'll let you be the swashbuckler. You're doing a great job of it.

On this we agree, but I don't think they meant it to be the latter, either. I really don't think it's thought out that far, and that's why we should be hard pressed to assign motives.

Keep your nail file in reserve as your whining is smarmy enough.

I think it's safe to say they felt that in their outlandishness ... modesty as defined by the sub-culture was not breached.
A whimisical beard or earing would have crossed the modesty and holiness line and woul have put into question their Apostolic Identity .... receiving reprimand and disdain by elders and others.
Interesting social group dynamic, methinks.

Some have great benefit for me, too, MB and AQP. And ignore works well, as does just not opening certain threads if they bother me.
I don't have any daughters. But I've had to make quite a few decisions recently and face the consequences of those. Levelheaded, nonjudgmental posts like some of yours helped me make what I hope and believe were the right decisions, and kept me from making some unwise stereotypes.

Re: Modesty as described by the General Youth Divi
I want to clarify that none of my posts have been referring to the young people who were at this conference in particular. I'm not intending to be critical of them.
It just brought up an interesting line of thought. About the Pentecostal culture, and the things that are preached.

Me either .... I think that these kids are hungry and thirsty for righteousness ... and many are living for God
However here is the rub ...
Had my 13 year old daughter, a stellar Christian, attended wearing a modest pair of slacks, trimmed hair, wearing natural looking makeup, discreet earrings and a discreet necklace while donning a " I'm A One-God-Apostolic, tongue talking, holy rolling, born again ... " t-shirt ....
and had sat in between the young lady in the clown attire and the girl with the Apostolic mohawk ...
She would have been bum-rushed and swarmed during altar call to be prayed through ... despite her being a Holy Ghost filled apostolic believer ...
because the assumption and possible judgmentalism and condescension that would have been rooted in the group's code of modesty.
Moreover, most in the group would assume she was either backslidden or mocking them with her t-shirt.
Her adornment and style would have been branded immodest because of the group/cultural parameters and not founded on bible-based principles of modesty.
Her fellowship with others in the Body stymied because of it.
Chagrins visible and gasps audible .... had she turned to either of the girls next to her and had layed her hands on them.
An inconsistent and twisted reality of a culture gone wild.
P.S. Danah would go "appropriately" dressed if she was attending such an event as not to offend.

Re: Modesty as described by the General Youth Divi
As Miss B and AQP has stated, I believe these discussions are very helpful. You know you aren't alone in thinking some of the things you do - you are challenged to understand why you believe some of the things you do - - and comforted to know it's okay to think them.
And even though some think the discussions are to "sway" people - I don't believe it for a second. God speaks to us all and just because he tells one to "stand and be still."
Doesn't mean he's not working on someone else to "move on" and or even "move back" - - we can't compare ourselves because we are all at different places in our lives and in our walks with God.
It's healthy discussion.
