If you think that then you are crazy. The organization will not crumble because of this, unless people allow it too. Read Chester Wright's letter. While some of it I question the overwhelming part of it is dead on. He says that the tv is not the problem it is the unity. Unity has to happen before revival, period. If the manual is correct, as it should be, reach the lost by any means possible and tv is possible then why not.
Did you read my post earlier about how the UPCI can produce and make commercials much like the bapitst and mormons use that are basic but says alot about the UPC? If they did that then the ulta cons would be happy because it is not they will not feel outcast from doing this. The ones that want on tv could be on tv, but if they get wacky remove them from fellowship. It is simple. If you live in an area where there is a MensWearhouse the commercials will give a number to call and get the closest MensWearhouse to you. UPCI can do the same thing. Do it by zipcode or area code in the bigger towns. It is that easy. A commercial that covers everyone, but gives the ones that want to preach on tv the chance to do that. Simple!

Thank you for your opinion, not to be rude, but you say "us" as if you belonged to the UPCI. Also, your church isn't UPCI, so how would you benifit?

JT - you're still UPC! Well, at least you're still ~half~ UPC, since you still go with your wife to Ichabod every couple weeks.
I attend and am part of a UPC church. However, I'm not UPC. I just happen to love the church and the leadership there and they just happen to be UPC. The church is conservative, I'm more moderate, perhaps even liberal.
But they love me anyway and I love everyone there. Amazing, huh? Me, a shorts-wearing, secular music-listening, movie-watching, sports game-attending, moderate/liberal, fitting in with a conservative, standards-preaching, UPC church. *grin*

UPCI will not likely crumble should Resolution 6 pass. It will likely become much smaller and quickly.
Unfortunately, the effect of tv will not be known immediately.
Oh, I know that those in favor will crow about their supposed success with it, but in reality it will more than likely be a huge financial drain on the churches. Maybe UPCI will impose a tv tax to help the smaller churches pay for their pleasure, oops, I mean preaching.

And, if it doesn't pass, you'll be ok with those who pull out because they want to advertise? You're ok with them causing some disunity?

I still haven't found where the UPCI says they want to reach the lost "by any means" and/or "at any cost". To think that is safe is silly.

The UPCI doesn't even remove those who don't abide by the manual NOW! Why do you think that will change?

How true, but there are so many willing to take the chance. Many will see some positive results and do the old "I told you so" thing. But, I truly believe that the ones who don't go down that path will be the ones saying "I told you so" a decade from now.

OGIA,
I assume that since your wife is not in church she has a televison. Do you abstain from watching it 100 %?

I'm at about 99.9% right now. I turned it on to watch the weather a bit ago (Weather Channel updates "on the 8's") and sat and watched about 15 minutes of Antiques Roadshow with her last night. That's the only "show" I will watch, even if only for minutes at a time. That was the first time I had watched it in about 3 weeks.
Now, if I had my druthers that 32" box would be out of here in a heartbeat!

I would say that 99.9% is just about there!!!! You are in the percentile of Pentecostal preachers who just check it out occasionally on a hotel room TV while traveling so they will have new ammo for preaching against it come Sunday!
My wife actually has me interested in some of her HGTV programs. Watching them remodel rooms is pretty interesting.

I don't watch it in hotel rooms. I really don't stay in them often, but when I have in the past few years (mostly at camp meeting/men's conference) I haven't turned it on.

I watched these shows for a couple of years, even before I got back into "church". I actually quit watching a few because of the homosexuals on them and because of the lude comments about "power tools" on another. Antiques Roadshow is about the only thing I'll watch, but it doesn't even appeal to me anymore. As I said, I could easily do without it.
