Oh, I understand that and I believe someone can have a personal conviction.
However, because it's personal, then that conviction should not be expected to be followed by others and especially shouldn't be a heaven or hell issue.

It is personal to me. I don't like short hair and you don't want yours long.
I don't want to dye mine and you do.
So, what do I do? I do what is best for me. It's just all part of making our own choices for ourselves.

Exactly! I think in time we will learn. I think we are learning now. From the inside, I see we are coming to a better understanding. I don't think it's fast enough for some, but I can't expect it to come around any faster than it is. I'm sure it wouldn't be good if it did. Slow changes give people time to think and evaluate. I would prefer that.

Okay, well I didn't really mean for it to get personal between me and you or somebody else -- just talking in a general sense about personal conviction ....... because some people use the "personal conviction" thing (which I believe we can have and probably all do have to a degree) as an excuse to break with mandate and principle of scripture.

I don't think there is going to be chapter and verse for every single conviction.
Modesty can cover a vast number of things. What is modest to me may not be an issue for you. I can't evaluate my life or convictions by yours and vice versa.

True. And there doesn't have to be a specific chapter and verse for a specific "conviction" but like I said there are principles taught in scripture from Gen. to Rev. that never change that personal conviction should have as a foundation.
It's just that in pastoring you hear people say "Well God hasn't convicted me about that .... in other words I have no personal conviction about such and such" when the Word is so clear on it.
And then again, personal conviction doesn't apply to just outward appearance either.
Anyhow, lots of different ideas. Have to give people room to develop their own personal walk with God while at the same time making sure they have a firm foundation based on what the Word of God teaches.

In regard to the whole "tradition" thing ..... I've posted before what can happen when people step outside the boundaries and fences of tradition. A lot of how successful that turns out is dependent on what peoples' understanding and view is of what their salvation is truly all about -- how solid their relationship with God is and how consistent and deep their walk with God has been.
Even then it can be dangerous to leave the safety of boundaries, standards and tradition behind.
