Sorry Mikey about the game.
Because I believe that a woman's long hair goes all the way back to creation and has nothing to do with culture or times.
... but I will absolutely not debate it on this forum.

Re: UPC pastor's wife refuses to wear hair up anym
The more I read this the more absurd I think it is. I know that they way those ladies look SEEMS to be a lot like the way a lot of PENTECOSTAL women look. Once you get past that initial "Oh WOW, they look Pentecostal" phase you can tell differences.
I think to let this stop you from wearing your hair up, if you are a lady, is silly. If you wore your hair like they did well maybe you should change the style cause it was just down right ugly, but to not wear it us is silly.
What happens when the media starts showing pictures of old hippies and you start thinking "wow I look like that with my hair all hanging down"? You going to start wearing it up again?
My wife used to be asked a lot if she was Amish just from the way she would wear her hair. It happened to be my favorite on her. Not to mention that Amish women wear bonnets almost all the times. At least everyone I ever saw had one on. I thought people were nuts for asking such a silly question. My wife now has to be 'begged' to wear her hair that way. When she does she gets so many compliments on it. Simply because a bunch of silly people thought it made her look Amish and was always asking us she stopped doing it. Not to mention she never wore clothes that looked Amish. People simply see the dress/skirt and the hair and they have nothing else to compare it to. That does not mean you should stop doing it.
Re: UPC pastor's wife refuses to wear hair up anym
The first time I saw the women from the compound it didn't remind me of the ladies
in the church I have attended for 50 yrs.
However it did remind me of some ladies back in my early experience of having
received the Holy Ghost at age 18.
There had been a revival in the area that boasted a "100 soul revival". Lasted
around 12 wks. if I remember correctly.
After the evangelist left, the pastor of what had been a small apostolic congre-
gation, took out some insurance and set the small church on fire after the Sunday
evening service as he left the church. Always wondered if after the church grew
so fast, he decided he needed to help God build a larger one to hold the "100 souls".
I mean no disrespect at all. The pastor was asked to sit under an older pastor
for two years to "prove himself". He was not willing but took several families and
located some distance out of the city in a rural area. They would travel to the city
in a large bus at times to attend Conferences or debates, etc. The ladies took on a
look so much like the women recently linked to the compound. When I saw those
women, immediately I remembered the ladies as they would get off their big bus at
the Conf., debates, singing, etc. It came back to me like a dream I had had before.
The two groups definitely had something in common. The ladies of both groups
appeared to be following ONE MAN who evidently were calling all the shots. If it had
not been for a wise grandmother and a concerned father to give wise godly counsel,
my story might have been different. As a teenager, SO confused by some of the
happenings, I don't know what would have happened to me. I could say a
lot more but won't.
In earlier years this man and his wife would come to our home town and hold
revivals, sing beautifully and he would preach and appeared to be so humble. God knows.
I learned early on not to put too much confidence in A MAN. My late father didn't tell us
to look to him but taught us to read our Bibles and pray every day. That way we would
grow, grow grow!
Grandma, Dad and Mom and many others who were godly examples are gone now,
But I now look to the God of my father, mother, etc. that they pointed me to. Looking
unto JESUS, the Author and Finisher of my faith.
"For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ for it is the power of God unto salvation.
to everyone that believeth.....".
I am not looking to MAN to tell me how to wear my hair, how to dress, etc.,etc. If we will
be sensitive to the Spirit, it will convict us if we are not presentable to Him.
Why not ask the Spirit to lead you as to what would please HIM.
Who cares what people think if God is pleased, everything will be okay.
That pastor's wife may have felt those women looked like her, but they don't
represent me.
Create in me, Your image O, Lord;
Let me be all You've dreamed I could be.
And when You have finished Your work, Lord, in me,
I pray that JESUS is all they will see.
Re: UPC pastor's wife refuses to wear hair up anym
I remember a man who didn't want to be identified as "one of them". He stood in the shadows and denied he was "one of them" 3 times. Even cursed a little to prove he wasn't "one of them". Then he heard a rooster crow. It never fails to amaze me how quick people abandon their "convictions".
Don't get me wrong. I'm not a "standards" kinda guy. I believe everyone should hold to their convictions, and stand on what they believe. But to "change" their conviction simply because they might be "confused" with FLDS? If its that easy to abandon a "conviction", it was never a "conviction"- only a tradition. But thats the thing with alot of people and their "standards". Appearances. Its has nothing to do with BEING holy- but has much to do with APPEARING holy.
Jeffery Dalmer (the serial killer) was clean shave. I guess thats why I wear a beard. I wouldn't want to be identified with the likes of him!

I doubt if the pastor's wife had a "conviction" about wearing her hair up. More likely it was just a style choice she was easily (and understandably) talked out of.

Yep, you got it. The pastor's wife never had a conviction about wearing her hair up. LOL!
She probably didn't wear her hair up to APPEAR holy, either. It's more probably that it was convenient and easy to arrange.

Sister when I saw that someone had asked you your opinion on this I immediately thought that same statement. They certainly do not represent her.
I love your posts. It is wonderful to have such wisdom with us. You parents taught you well.

I didn't take it that she wasn't going to wear her hair up ever perhaps not in public?
I took it to be a spur of the moment thing based on present company and current newscasts, and like I said...who could blame her? I'm sure she'll go back to her comfort zone later. (But who can know for sure?)
I'm sure if the local news reported a serial killer (like OA's Dahmer) in your area who was nearly your twin, you might be at least tempted to go into the bathroom with a sharpie and draw on a mustache....LOL!!!
It is perfectly valid to disassociate oneself with an extremist group by changing your appearance. In my opinion, anyway. I'm sure there are certain things that your church members refrain from due to cultural problems, gangs and symbols, etc., that we would never have to worry about here.
