If my Suburban is on E it costs almost 150 to fill it up. 42 gallon tank. Part of the double cost I pay to send my kids to private school. We get to drive them there and pay for the public school transportation. Any tax break I can get I take.

You would have to fill up your tank almost 6 times to save $28. $28 out of almost $900 you will spend.

While I did not look at it carefully, what I looked at I like. There are many things they could do that would allow the free market process to bring cost down.
What do you think about health savings accounts? I am looking at the possibility of that. I can afford everyday health cost such as doctor visits and such. However, something serious would really hurt me.

I think it's a good idea. Both McCain and Hillary support it. The only difference is that Hillary states that lost revenues would be replaced by a windfall profit tax on oil companies. She argued that a loss in Summer revenues could endanger jobs and functionality when it comes to maintaining roads and highways. McCain offers the gas tax holiday without any kind of profit tax.
Thoughts?

I am a proponet of the fair tax. I think income taxes go againsat our constitution. I like the idea of the holiday tax. I do not believe that we should tax oil companies anymore. Companies don't pat taxes, they pass that cost to the consumer.
The more you tax big buisness, the more of them leave the country, the more of them that leave the country, the more jobs are lost.
We need to start drilling our own oil and get the value of the dollar back up.

Since I fill it up once a week as well as my pickup, that's certainly more than twice what the "average American would save."
That would buy lunches for a week or two. No it’s not huge but anything that I can keep rather than give to the government to waste is a good idea to me. Maybe they could cut the millions they give to Planned Barrenhood to make it up.

The gas tax is money that is used for highway maintenance and road construction. I am all for lower prices on fuel, but not this way. It isn't going to solve anything, and we will end up having to pay for it in other ways, like less money for much needed road improvements.

If you notice, it's a pattern. It happens just about every time Christopher Hall gets involved in a discussion.

First, I am not so sure that that money is dedicated to our roads. If you can show me that the gas tax is used exclusively for administration and care of our roads, then fine I will pay my $100 tax on that for the summer.
Second, maybe cut the 500 million in taxpayer dollars that went to Planned Barrenhood in the last two years.

Re: 8 miles of truckers
Those of you with vehicles that use a lot of gasoline might consider buying a four cylinder. Using Baron's example of $150 a week in fuel expenses, that could be cut in half by driving a 4 cylinder. $75 a week in savings adds up to around $3900 a year in savings. If you are willing to purchase a good used car, then you would come out ahead in around a year and a half, assuming you spend $5000 for it. Plus, you could still keep your gas guzzling truck or SUV for things you actually need it for, like maybe hauling around your family, pulling your boat or camper, etc.
I bought a 4 cylinder almost a year ago. I really didn't want to because I'm more of a V-8 kind of fella. Plus, with a family of 6, I didn't think a 4 cylinder would work. But, it's turned out to have been a good decision. Not only do I save money on fuel, but I found out that there aren't many times when the whole family gets together to go anywhere. We still have a van for those times when we all go somewhere and for when I go grocery shopping, but the van sits more than it gets used. Even including the extra expense of having 3 cars on our insurance vs 2, I still have saved a lot of moolah with this Neon.
