I firmly urge all of the brethern to vote "NO". Better to continue wandering in the 19th century than further marginalize the Oneness Pentecostal movement.

Sounds like "Must See TV" to me.

Here are my observations;
1. Based on the couple of times I have seen MM on a webcast the thought of him broadcast to the masses as an example of what Oneness Pentecostalism is makes me glad I am no longer UPC!
|
Ridiculous, CC1. I wouldn't mind showing anyone MM's videos. He's radical and edgy and fun and passionate. He isn't particularly couth or suave...and that makes him more likeable to the "common folks"...not less.

2. I think many of those who blindly supported him through his marital difficulties will now turn on him with a vengance. This letter is going to be very unpopular with about 50% of the preachers who read it. This stand may do what a divorce did not - seriously dent the number of people registering for his Soulwinning Bootcamp.
|
Those who supported him will probably still support him. Those who didn't like him to begin with will add this to their growing list of complaints and use it against him.
By the way...does anyone know how many people registered for Bootcamp this year?
Were you under the false impression that MM supporters did not already know that he was in favor of using tv as an evangelism tool?
Not liking MM's style is no reason to be overly critical. I have a feeling that Peter The Fisherman and Chief Denier of Christ wasn't all that sophisticated either. And look who preached The Big Message!
Additionally, many who have supported him through his divorce did NOT do so "blindly."

Actually, MM probably would make good tv. Certainly, I'd rather watch him than all the dried up prunes and boring shows on TBN.

Just because you prefer your ministers to stand politely behind the podium looking over the tops of their bifocals doesn't mean that everyone prefers that approach.
Tell ya what else... young folks like the radical, "don't care who's lookin' at me" passionate approach...and that would be secular and churched, either one.
I seem to remember some lame man leaping and rejoicing when he was healed....
Hmmmm. But now we're back to your other pet objection...which is to emotionalism and exuberant praise and worship....LOL.

Nah. I wouldn't want to see MM against that pretentious, overly gilded background. He's better suited for a plain stage and casual jeans atmosphere.

If only the wig wasn't pink. And oddly shiny. It might almost be passable. But that's another thread I suppose.

MM goes far beyond "exuberant worship" into just plain bizarre. If he is what old time Oneness Pentecost has come to then it is doomed.
I know bums who also have the radical "I don't care who's lookin at me" passionate approach to pan handling but it doesn't make them right.
I know door to door salesmen who have that same attitude and approach.
The wild antics simply appeals to the "us against them" menatlity that many OP's think they have to foster to continue the sect.
It is a "Look at me I am craaaazzzzzzy for Jesus" mantra that only emphasizes human antics and not the word of God.
There is not even one New Testament example of those kinds of shenanigans going on by preachers.
I am proud that I prefer the word of God and the true power of the Holy Spirit and God's word over shallow emotionalism.
The flips and somersaults are no more measure of the power of God and the Holy Spirit than the Roman Catholic Popes hat or sceptre are.
