900 people in Guyana found out too late.

But let's say Jim had an epiphany, and told the 900 that he was off track all those long years? The next best step for him to do would be to send the people somewhere for their restoration. Jim would then be able to seek restoration under a minister's guidance. Yet, as far as false prophet label, that would tend to stick with the individual for a long time. Anyone who knew of him taking his church and moving it to Guyana to escape the coming Nuclear War. Same goes for anyone else who impacted the lives of so many to only confess their fault after they dropped a watermelon on the heads of their members.

If there was a demonstrated act of humility in seeking counsel after admitting error, it would go a long way.

First off, don't go claiming God said something he didn't, that's plain and simple. JD take a minute tonight and read Jeremiah 23, especially in a modern translation. Not a lot left to the imagination. Any man of God should know, unless they are 1000% sure God told them to say "XYZ", then they don't attribute the words to God himself.

As I posted previously, there are plenty of ways to share your feeling/impressions without turning them into "thus saith the Lord." I believe 2 reasons for this are 1)self exaltation, to seek to set one apart from their peers and even other ministers, as the one thru which God speaks and interacts with, hence its about their glory and reputation, not God's. And 2) the nature of charismatic-pentecostal Christianity tends to lean toward subjective emotional based experiences and sensationalism, and one fruit of this is people run around all the time claiming God said something to them, and attributing things to God.

Its a two fold problem, a lack of respect for God's glory, and bad theology.

What should be done? Humble yourself, come clean that you missed it. Thank God for grace, and stick to the scriptures.

Is he forever a false prophet? Not necessarily. He was forever wrong. Of God truly gives Him a prophecy, it WILL cone to pass. If not, he need not try to prophecy.

Simple really.
