Re: Tiger Woods Update Thread
I and my family are deeply saddened by the recent developments in the lives of Tiger & Elin Woods. Tiger has brought much joy into our lives in some very crucial times. He is a genuinely nice, caring, and compassionate person. But he has fallen into things that are destructive and our prayers, even including him in our dinner-time prayers, are with him. I agree with Jack Nicklaus....he'll figure this out. And I agree with John Daly...don't just stay together for the kids. Really, really work it out and we'll be ready to root for you, even more vigorously than ever, when you return to golf.
Thank you, Tiger, for what you've meant to our family, thank you for walking away from the PGA Tour to take care of what's really important, and thank you for the impact those around you have made on our lives. Be well, be healed, and we'll ready for you when you return!!

Interesting enough, one of my younger white friends made a statement similar to this a few years ago.
He asked something along the lines of, "Why do Black guys always go for White blondes with blue eyes?"
It was more of a statement than a question.
I dug a little deeper and he told me he that interracial dating made him angry-- more specifically Blacks and Whites.
During our discussion, one of the remarks I made was, "It takes 2 to tango."
In his illogical prejudice, he had forgotten that both parties are usually willing when people date each other.
He was also under the impression that most Black guys want to have "relations" with White women because Black women were so unattractive and White women were just more beautiful.
I laughed.
No, I didn't get angry. I just corrected him, hoping he would realize from our conversation that he was entitled to his taste in women but that his opinions were misguided.
We agreed to disagree and leave it alone. Sometimes, it's best that way.

Re: Tiger Woods Update Thread
I am sorry for Tiger and his family...I really am. The pain that is caused in these situations is unknown by most.
However, it appears that we are not talking about a slip of judgment. We are not talking about a 1 night stand when passions just got too much to bear. It appears that we are talking about a double lifestyle. It appears that we are not talking about an addiction, but a chosen lifestyle. One can choose to be faithful or one can choose not to be faithful.
As a Sr. Pastor, I have had more than one woman "hit" on me over the years and it was obvious what they were after. I have tried my best to kindly and respectfully not return those misplaced expectations. I have chosen to be faithful to my lovely wife. For that, the congregation I lead, appreciates that in me, as they should. If it ever came to light that I was leading a double life and had another woman/women on the side, they would be devastated, and I can understand that. I believe that most folks root for the good guy to win. I have believed Tiger to be a good guy. I have admired his "family" manner and "rooted" for his success. However, I, along with the rest of the world, have been scammed. We were seeing something that did not exist, it appears. It offends me and disappoints me. However, I will not pray for Tigers' demise. He, along with King David, have committed a terrible indiscretion that has affected multitudes who also were rooting for the good guy. If the fame of his repentance exceeds the fame of his fall, he can be restored. I pray for that restoration.
Do I feel sorry for him? Yes and no. The "YES" part of me states that it is sad that anyone's family has to go through this. The "NO" part of me states that if he didn't want these consequences he should have made different choices. For the life of me, I can't imagine how public figures like him, whose faces are planted all over the world think that they can get away without anyone saying anything etc. After all, what woman wouldn't eventually say, "Hey, you'll never guess who I slept with?"
I am glad that he is focusing on his family. I hope and pray that it works. It may be too late for that...I hope not. God's forgiveness is available to him and to all.
However, as a wise man once said, "If you can't do the "time" don't commit the "crime." Sorry Tiger, I'm in your corner, but don't expect me to say that it's OK and you just stubbed your toe here. You should have known better. You should have appreciated the blessings you have been given more. You should have cherished your lovely wife and children more than your base fleshly nature. Is it difficult to stay faithful? Not as difficult as it is to achieve the level of success in golf that you have. You REALLY do know how to overcome difficult situations. Bad form, Tiger. Bad form.

You really should have stopped with that. The rest of what you said boggles my mind. Oh well. You were scammed? Please.
I brought this thread back up today because I wanted to state my family's support of Tiger and reaffirm that our daily prayers, even to the point of intercession, are with him. I knew someone would say, "Yeah, but....." but I put it up anyway. I just wanted to say it.
To say that one is getting what one deserves is to completely ignore the fact, that if humanity got what it deserved, we would all be doomed ( Lamentations 3:22). We all applaud your ability to resist the many women that, evidently, come after you. But I'm guessing there are some things you haven't resisted.
Go ahead, go on the message board at www.tigerwoods.com and join in with the thousands of condemnation specialists who are yelling at him (most of whom are very gifted at the use of vulgarities). Our family deeply hopes that he and his wife and able to get through this and not only survive, but do very well.
Tiger Woods said that, along with wanting to be a better husband and father, he also wants to be a better person. I can only pray and ask God to enable him to do just that. And I also pray that somehow, this destructive situation could somehow lead him to Jesus.

Do you really believe that he is taking time out of the spotlight to focus on his family? Or, that maybe he is trying to hide because the world found out he is a liar and a cheater?

Scammed is right. I along with many others thought he was something that he wasn't. If it were just a mistake, that's one thing. But it, apparently was a repeated lifestyle behavior.

And you have every right to say it. So do I.

I didn't say there were MANY women. Don't appreciate you putting words in my mouth. I said more than one. Over the course of 25+ yrs of pastoring that is probably not abnormal. I'm not holier than others and certainly not holier than Tiger. Your gift of prophecy must be working well. You're right.....I have made mistakes...I am not perfect. However, I DO know what is important and he should have as well. Faithfulness to one's spouse should not be something abnormal. No excuse for what he did no matter what you say. A single indiscretion is completely different from what he has done. It is what it is and he CAN be forgiven and restored as I have said. I pray for that to happen.

I have no intention of piling on the stones on some web site solely for the purpose of destruction. I'm not yelling at him AND I don't use vulgarities. That is not what this thread is about either. I am expressing my opinion. I am simply looking at both sides of the equation. If it were me, I'd say the same thing. No candy coating. No smoke and mirrors. Sin, especially THIS sin is ugly and unfortunately, in the face of everyone. It speaks to the very core of man's character....faithfulness to the one you have chosen to spend the rest of your life with. This man practices day in and day out to put the little white ball in the little cup. He says "NO" to so many things which vie for his attention away from that. Don't tell me with a straight face that he didn't have the constitution to remain faithful to Elin. He chose where his victories were and one of the things which REALLY matter, he chose not to. It is forgivable, but unacceptable.
Tiger Woods said that, along with wanting to be a better husband and father, he also wants to be a better person. I can only pray and ask God to enable him to do just that. And I also pray that somehow, this destructive situation could somehow lead him to Jesus.

I pray as well that the Sovereign Lord will hear Tiger's cries and prayers and heal his marriage and draw him to Him who is able to restore. That does not negate the facts of what I have stated.....fair and balanced!
