Okay, found the gun that I decided on. Thanks for all the advice. You were right I needed to hold it!
I still like the Smith and Wesson and decided on a 9mm.
My husband was very serious and said to me, in the store. "If you are going to buy this gun, you have to also be willing to use it. If you don't think you could do it, then don't buy it."
I didn't buy it yesterday. I'm thinking about what he said and why he was so serious about it.
Pressing, I have the Smith and Wesson M&P in the .40 cal. I love it. The .40 has no more recoil than a 9mm of any other make. You'll love the interchangeable grip feature. They have a nice small grip option for smaller hands.
I have a short video clip of me shooting the M&P40 during my CPL training last year. See it here on a personal page of mine at Synadelfos: Me shooting my M&P40 The clip is on the left hand side of the page.
I have the full size version (15 shot mag - 1 in chamber). They also have the 40 in a compact size (10 shot mag - 1 in chamber) I'm considering purchasing soon.
Have not read entire thread, so forgive me if this has already been posted.
IMO, the absolute best home defense weapon is a 12 gauge pump.
You don't have to be a marksman for it to be effective, little chance of bullet going beyond your walls, and putting a shell in the chamber is one of the frightening sounds a criminal can imagine in a dark house!
Gotta admit, that SOUND in the dark can cause most criminals to leave "moisture" on the floor!! LOL
Pump that puppy once and they know you mean "bidness!"
My oldest Son and I just went to gun show today and he sold his Colt .45 and took a 12 gauge Mossberg pump in the trade plus some $$$. They are intimidating as can be. You're right.....you don't need to be accurate.

Pressing On, for the first 10 years of marriage my husband worked nights. I never worried because I had my 12 gauge.

Thank you. I did see you shooting your gun! I believe I handled a .45 and a .38. The 9mm felt very comfortable.
