This is not always what a backslidder wants. Sometimes they just want a person or a couple people to pray with them. It makes them feel like a spectacle when everyone encircles them and gets in there face. They have enough guilt and problems trying to touch God without another huge distraction.
Just thought I would give this to think about so that next time your wanting to pray with a backslidder allow those people that are close to the person to handle a situation and pray at your pew for them.

So true and this doesn't just go for BACKSLIDERS, I'm sorry but this really bugs me that ANYTIME ANYONE goes to the altar, they are swarmed., and this happens just about everywhere even in the baptist churches.
Whatever compelled people to do this, I thought a person goes to an altar to pray to or before GOD TO GOD! To me, its a personal intimate time with GOD, yet people right away come and hover. Its something that can keep someone from even going to the altar. I have seen the reaction of some., and one sister I know when she was first coming said she couldn't STAND strangers to 'touch' her.

Some of the mistakes saints make can be traced to my own personal experience.
One is the focus more on persons, church leadership, denominations or organizations, and make them our focus. We hope that someone down here is willing to say, "Good work." We focus on this, some of us, that when we do not get that pat on the back, we become hurt, angry, bitter, or resentful. This leads a soul to backsliding, rejecting the Lord.
I know. Been there. Not a pleasant mistake to live in, but wonderful to get out of.
Sometimes it takes a crisis for someone to see their mistakes and come out of personage and man adoration. Some it takes a good swift kick. For some, it takes time. In all things, it takes the Holy Ghost working in the heart of an individual to take their focus off of man and put it where it rightly belongs.

SimplyMe..That is why sometimes when I asked my child to attend church with me they wont because they dont like to be swarmed in case they decided they wanted to go up front and pray. Also they dont like peoples hands all over them.
I think if we asked even people in the church they would prefer to pray alone at times. Just about the time you really break through and touch God people begin to come and start talking in your face or lay hands on you and too me that is very distracting at times.
Am I the only saint who feels like this or are there others there that feel the same? I know that people are trying to be helpful but depending on the nature of the person is to whether youll be a help or a hindrance.

Yes, but then again haven't you heard the scolding that goes on when someone doesn't go and pray for someone. There really is very little leeway for sensitivity on these things and that's unfortunate.
In many places you are judged as to whether or not you are "in the altars" praying for people. This is then reinforced with statements made from the pulpit about it.
I've seen cases where you could not pack anymore people into a small altar area and those praying and worshipping in the pews were scolded for not joining in up front.
In a climate where you have to constantly "prove" your salvation and worth you will have extremes. Either nobody goes forward or too many people jump at the chance to show themselves. There are too many mixed messages about these things. Altar calls are one area where we could use a little choreography.

I agree that altar working could be a class we all would benefit from. I also think if a certain person brings a visitor then they would be the best suited to accompany them to the altar if they chose to go .
I also think we could kind of watch the person who goes with them and follow there lead as to what to do .
We have classes for most everything else so possibly I might ask my own pastor if he might teach a class on altar working. I think that would be very beneficial for me and probubly alot of others who have great intentions but just dont know how to act upon it.

Although this is true for some, remember everyone is different and others may need to feel everyone cares and wants their prayers.
