He's my Lord and my God

Help Anyone???

Mack Abbott of New Mexico sang it
and I requested for David {his son}
to sing it at a Fellowship Service
I Was Preaching in Cape Girardeau
Missouri during the summer of 1969 -

Chorus
He's my Lord & my God
He's not just a stranger to me
When I looked past the veil
It was easy to see
He's my Lord & my God.

Verse # 1 -
Thomas the doubter said I won't believe
Until the nail prints I see
But when the Master appeared
All his doubt fled away
And Thomas fell to his knees.

chorus
He's my Lord & my God
He's not just a stranger to me
When I looked past the veil
It was easy to see
He's my Lord & my God.

Verse # 2 -
Skeptics today bring confusion to all
And tradition just won't let some folks see
But Jesus Christ said
I'm the way and the life
You can't know God unless you know me

chorus
He's my Lord & my God
He's not just a stranger to me
When I looked past the veil,
It was easy to see
He's my Lord & my God.

ending
When I looked past the veil
It was easy to see
He's my Lord
The wonderful counselor
He's my Lord.
The everlasting Father
He's my Lord
The Prince of Peace
He's my Lord & my God

Purple Robe

An elderly lady at our little country church used to sing this song and she'd "get happy" as we used to call it. ......We'd never heard of "Shockamoo". Sometimes she'd even do this:

PURPLE ROBE

CHORUS :
PURPLE ROBE MY SAVIOR WORE
OH THE SHAME FOR ME HE BORE
AS HE STOOD ALONE FORSAKEN ON THAT DAY
AND THEY PLACED UPON HIS HEAD
PIERCING THORNS OF BLOOD STAIN RED
HIS RAIMENT WAS A SCARLET PURPLE ROBE

VERSE 1:
'TIS A STORY SO UNKIND
IN THE HOLY BOOK WE FIND
AND IT TELLS HOW
JESUS STOOD ALONE ONE DAY
FALSE ACCUSED AND THERE CONDEMNED
YET THEY FOUND NO FAULT IN HIM
THE MAN WHO WORE
THE SCARLET PURPLE ROBE

VERSE 2:
IN A COMMON JUDGMENT HALL
HE WAS MOCKED AND SCORNED BY ALL
AND THE TEARS OF SORROW
FELL UPON HIS CHEEKS
SOLDIERS OF THE WICKED BAND
SMOTE HIM WITH THEIR EVIL HAND
THE MAN WHO WORE
THE SCARLET PURPLE ROBE

VERSE 3:
WORDS OF TRUTH THAT DAY DID RING
FROM THE LIPS OF PILOT CAME
IN THIS MAN I FIND
NO REASON HE SHOULD DIE
BUT THE MULTITUDE THEN CRIED
LET HIM BE CRUCIFIED
THE MAN WHO WORE
THE SCARLET PURPLE ROBE

  1. There is One God. This one God reveals Himself distinctly as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
  2. The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
  3. Every sinner must repent of their sins.
  4. That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
  5. That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
  6. The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

Wow, 1969? I never would have guessed that this song was that old. I thought it came out when I was in my teens. Oh wait, in 1969, i would have been, oh never mind I don't want to tell everyone how young I am lol
Thanks for posting the words, Sweet Pea got a little ahead of ya but I still appreciate it.

1969. . . Hm-m-m-m. This must have been one that he wrote before they married. They had an album "Getting Emotional" that I listened to in order to confirm my memory of the words. It states "all songs written by David and Darcy Abbott" and they recorded it around the 1975 - 1977 time frame. I didn't find a date on the album but I'm thinking it came out either just before or just after their oldest son was born.

I listened to the whole album.... and to echo what SoCali said.... it was definitely a "blast from the past"!!! But I did enjoy it. They wrote some great songs!

Are they the ones that wrote "I'm So Glad I've Got The Holy Ghost"? I remember him singing it at General Conference one time.

There is a song that he sang that had that line in it, but I don't think that is the name of it. I'll do some checking around and see if I can find out what song it is.

I think these are the lyrics to the chorus but I don't know if it had verses.

I'm so glad I got the Holy Ghost
I'm so glad I got the Holy Ghost
Jesus came into my heart
Gave me a brand new start
I'm so glad I got the Holy Ghost

Wow, can't believe I remembered the whole thing. At least I think that was all the chorus.
