How shall I ever forget the painting of the sheep stranded on the side of a dangerous ledge, ready to fall into a deep canyon as the shepherd, holding on to a fragile bush with the hook of his staff stretches as far as he can to reach the wandering sheep.
In the church, we do not need an INDEPENDENT spirit.

I definitely think you missed the entire point of the message...
Here it is...

Exactly Renda. And he's saying to quit trying to "make" something happen. Let go and let God.

Sorry... I didn't do that. I let her go. I will hold no one hostage.
If she refused to listen to God and stay and try and work things out, then how loud does my voice have to be for her to hear me? Bottom line is she wouldn't.
All we can do is let them go.

That is not what I'm talking about.
I'm talking about those "I can do without you," games. It is destructive to marriages.
Sometimes, one must humble themselves to save what was once a love relationship and for the sake of a marriage.
But, don't get me started on this. I'm not a marriage counselor. I'll leave that to Rhoni and Keith.

Possibly.
But if I did, it was too easily missed.
I HATE an independent spirit, especially in marriages and in the house of God. But in just everyday relationships of neighbors and business, those things ebb and flow without any thought. Those relationships come and go without much care or concern. So, then why a whole sermon built upon those kind of fickle relationships. I'm sure that I don't understand what Jakes is driving at.

Bishop Jakes never said "Let them go" ... but to "Let it go" ... whatever is separating us from communing w/ God and our brethren ...
I agree w/ Ronzo in that if our partner has decided to walk ... what can one do ...?
One must let go of the unhealthy feelings and bitterness that result from our failed interactions w/ others and/or our personal failures ... or IT can consume us AND will not allow the good shepherd to lead us ....

Once again, my l'll buddy has scored a home run.
I can agree with that.
But, if our partner decides to walk, it can be made clear to him/her that he/she will walk out over a broken, bruised and bleeding heart that cares, loves and committed to him/her forever.

Elder Strange,
I think that Bishop Jakes might be advocating your concern ... how many marriages are crippled because a spouse will not "let go" ... of something in their own past, an addiction, depression, failure, insecurity, anger, bitterness, etc.

If I caught, it can't be easily missed, my friend.
Actually I think you simply saw it from a different perspective...
