True, but I have heard enough stories of cats munching on their owners after they have aassumed room temperature to make me suspect that the carivorous instinct may be what is at work here.

Maybe because there is something ghoulish about a cat that hangs around dying people?

Nah. The staff said that the dying person doesn't likely realize the cat is there, but it gives them time to call the family to be there. That would be a good thing.

I do tend to think my first thesis is probably the correct one. I know that many times animals can sense things we do not such as a storm coming, etc because of subtle changes in wind pressure, smell, etc.

I tend to agree with you on your first answer. Animals have uncanny senses.
Dogs have been trained to smell cancer in human patients.....
