I guess you've only been to one place 'in the south' because I've been to quite a few places that know how to throw a party like this...
...and roasted corn needs Tony C's.
Spent time all over the south for years and the Mid-South Fair was the only time and place that I found roast corn. And then they sometimes needed roasting lessons!
No roast corn otherwise in TN, MS, AL, GA, AR, LA, KY,....is that enough?
(Kinda hard not to "get around" when in Memphis. Other states are sorta "close by" )
As for fireman's waterfights, it was as unheard of as POLKA music and brats outside the meat department! LOL!
Tomorrow I'm going to the first CORN ROAST of the season.
Most poor southerners don't know what roast corn is all about. One of the things I missed being in the south. Only time I got it was at the Mid-South Fair once a year!
Theres nothing like a community event with corn roasted on the grill as one of the main attractions.
Dip that stuff in melted butter, pour on the salt and theres nothing better!
When I was a kid I could eat 7 ears. Now I do well to handle 4.
And then theres water fights...fire departments competing with each other using their water trucks and a keg strung up between two poles.
And theres crafts and baked goods and other yummy things like grilled pork, chicken, burgers, brats, etc.
Sure, there will be beer and music, but I don't drink it, and if you have a problem with being around POLKA music theres something wrong with you!
I go for the corn! And I like to watch the water fights too.
Sound alot like our Amarillo Tri-State Fair .......Roasted Corn and Turkey Legs!
And just about any thing else that is a Meat product!
HMMmmmmm ......I can smell it now... smoked Brisket!
