I bought my custom computer a week ago, and it is coming today. I have the monitor, mechanical keyboard, mouse and Fedora USB stick ready on the table to set it up  . Then I'll be selling my mac.
I will be also getting an Samsung S9 soon, and I'll be rooting it to /e/ OS ( https://e.foundation), to replace my iPhone.
I rooted my own router over a year ago to OpenWRT, and still going strong.
I have always been an advocate of Open Source (not married to a specific license, though), and encryption all the things. I hate being spied on, for political or commercial reasons.

Yeah, I read up on it after commenting. I don’t know anyone personally who uses Linux at home. My friend used it briefly some 16 years ago.

Not really. The vast majority of servers do, but desktop computers are predominantly Windows based. Maybe some businesses have converted over to Linux, but the bulk of them (especially in the small-medium sized business sector) have not.

Sort of. Linux itself is just a kernel, and while Android is based on the Linux kernel, it's about as far removed from Linux on desktop as iOS is from MacOS.

Or gamers. It's been changing more rapidly lately with the implementation of Proton and the Valve equivalent version of that, but it still has a long way to go before it unseats Windows as the dominant gaming OS. I wouldn't mind having an alternative to Windows, but until then it's what we gamers are stuck with.

Don't buy Alienware. If you guy pre-made do not go with major labels. They cut corners on cooling, ram, power supplies and motherboards.
There is a YouTube guy that reviews high end gaming platforms and other models. Let me look

I got an HP Omen from work for literally $45 dollars due to employee discount and it being preleased and refurbished. I barely use it because I just live for work, family and church. If I had internet at home other than hotspot from my phone id do much more with learning some marketable skills. Id seriously considering buying or aquiring broke computers, phones and tablets...fixing them and reselling them. Store threw out a Samsung Tablet...really nice. Wouldn't cut on. I got it for free...got on youtube and Google and identified the problem with some research, opened it with non ideal tools, literally moved a ribbon from the mother board a minescule twitch forward and it came on after charging.
I gave it for free to a brother needing one at church.
