Re: Needing church recommendations, Louisville KY
...just wanted to add, I am not wanting a debate about standards, legalism, etc , plenty of threads on here to do that-- I'm just asking here to possibly give me some suggestions of where we could go check out. I went to a UPC church for 15+ years. The most recent church I attended before moving was a PAW church with an amazing pastor. They believed in holy lifestyle, some standards, but it was not beat over your head. The women generally wore skirts. Some people wore a small amount of jewelry. At any rate, I liked their approach to those things. They were a sincere bunch with a wonderful pastor. I am hoping to find a church with a similar approach. The last UPC church I went to in CA the pastor was very laid back and did not make an issue of standards. The people there were also very sincere, it wasn't anything goes.

Re: Needing church recommendations, Louisville KY
Why ask for complete strangers to recommend something to a complete stranger? This isn’t like telling a soul to go to XYZ church in XYZ city, state. This is religious person looking for their particular religious get together. Hey, that’s what phone books are for. Why go through the tedious work of telling an expert on what church YOU think will suit that expert? Hey, use Google and search around until you find the seat that fits your seat. Or else start your own church and tell everyone the way it should be done.

Sounds like a church that a couple people on AFF would love to attend.

No. Just a former UPC church that has torn down all of the "legalism" fences. And now on the way to throwing away the doctrine.
As always happens...
Very talented pastor and wife, but they wanted to "reach" more people.
So, the walls of separation were taken down.
It grieves me to think about it.
Lots of good memories around him and his family.

It would be interesting to know what various Churches believe before spending time that could be better spent elsewhere. I say she is doing well to ask what Churches are like. She probably thought someone here might be from Louisville. Simple.
