But what is an "AMERICAN identity"? How is that defined universally for all people dwelling in the United States? About the only thing any of us have in common, besides being humans, is man-made geographical lines of demarcation that state everyone living in this chunk of land is living in the US. After that, it's all fair game.

Should we start with English as the official language of the USA? That would be considered discrimination by a large percentage of the population, as it would leave a lot of people unable to do or have what you state below:

Slavery was bad enough.

I am talking about the 100 + years that followed slavery...

That is the time of the lyncings, the complete burning down of black towns because they were prosperous, the time of rampant injustice even within the legal system that was supposed to protect us, the time of intentional economic retardation and even destruction, the time of lack of access to equal education and jobs, the time of fear, the years of white supremacy.


It would be very foolish to think that what I have described above has been completely addressed-- with the intentional harm done by those policies completely rectified.

A lot of what we see today has roots in America's broken promises to American blacks that were supposed to be a part of Reconstruction.

The Civil Rights Act was passed only 9 years before I was born, less than 20 years before the Challenger explosion, approximately 33 years before 9/11-- in other words, not that long ago in American history.

My Dad was an adult in the Jim Crow south.

Have we made tremendous strides in a relatively short amount of time? Sure! Are we done? No way! Perfect example is the weak response to Charlottesville from the orange-fleshed, yellow-haired tripe in the place of a leader at the head of our country who constantly publically badgered and tarnished America's first black President's reputation with thinly-veiled racist accusations denying his American-identity and thus legitimacy as AMERICA'S President.

So here's another thought. While many Americans really didn't like BHO's politics, too many people try to deny the other swath of Americans who applauded every Republican attempt to politically neutralize President Obama because they saw it as a means to DELEGITIMIZE his Presidency.

The GOP sated the racial hatred of these people by publically declaring that they would never work with him. How is that even acceptable? Why was it ever acceptable? The President won the Electoral College and popular vote both times he ran.

That same ugly swath of Americans helped propel tripe to his position, the same tripe that sought to delegitimize Obama, is now using his position to do what every chance he gets?

Instead of fixing Healthcare or working on a bilateral plan, the vocal, ugly swath of Americans convinced their Representatives and Senators to completely ignore the desires of over 50% of the country. There's no proof that Iran is not abiding by the agreement, but tripe is already laying the groundwork for attacking Iran for not abiding by the deal. Transgendered (and soon to follow gays) to be booted from the military. There are other examples...

You and I may see it as nothing more than politics-- but there is an ugly swath of Americans that applaud every assault on Obama's "legacy" and it is these folks who turned out in droves to volunteer and support tripe and it is these folks he is careful to not offend because it is these "alternative-Republicans" that the likes of Gingrich and Santorum and Rush and that other guy with the super-whiny voice will feed into every once in a while just so that this ugly swath knows that the Republican Party appreciates them. They are motivated by a sense of racial superiority and they are NOT acknowledged but neither are they marginalized by the GOP. They are never completely ignored in the GOP and tripe is not about to publically disavow himself from his base in any meaningful way. So Charlottesville happened, and in the words of one white supremacist, "This is just the beginning."
