Re: 25 Year Anniversary
Sherri, glad to see you and Eddie are doing well.
I wish everyone who left the "mothership" had as good of a spirit or attitude as you.

This summer marks the 25th year that we have been out of UPC and been independent. After 25 years, I still have mixed emotions. I know we absolutely did what God told us to do, and I have no regrets. But I still have emotional ties to so many people and memories from that era of our lives. I still love my heritage and thank God for my upbringing. I have many UPC friends and family members.
Gdd has been good to us, and I hope that we have proven to some doubters that it is possible to leave the Mother Ship and still love God with all your heart, still preach Biblical truth, and try to live a holy life before God, with fear and trembling. There are so many truths that I know now that I was never taught during those years of upbringing, but they will never take away from the truths that I learned in my formative years. But I now know that we did not have "THE truth" as we were told. That is one arrogant mindset that I had to repent of. We all still have things to learn.
So, for those of you who have doubts about those of us who have "gone Charismatic" (whatever in the world that means), just want to let you know that some of us have survived and are better for it. 25 years later, and still going strong for Jesus! And we are NOT Charismatic.

I believe I recall you saying it was not necessary to receive the Holy Ghost in order to be saved. I once asked how you reconcile that belief with Romans 8:9. I may have missed your response. If so, I apologize in advance.
It is my belief that it is not truth at all if someone teaches that the Holy Ghost is not salvific.

Sorry - just saw this. I don't believe everyone who has not spoken in tongues will split hell wide open. Nope - not at all!
I do believe that the baptism of the Holy Ghost is available for all Believers and we teach that it is for power and authority in the Kingdom. Who wouldn't want that???? We have had hundreds receive the Holy Ghost in the past few years; I dare say more than most Apostolic churches. We just don't scare people into it, fearing for their souls. We teach it is a gift from God and why they need it and people just want it!
As for Romans 8:9, I believe that when you turn from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of God's dear Son (repentance), you have the Spirit of Christ. That is totally different than the baptism in the Holy Spirit, which comes after. What do you think happens at repentance? Nothing?
How do you explain Mark 16:16?

Re: 25 Year Anniversary
And just so you know, my husband quotes Acts 2:38 every Sunday morning when he talks about what people should do.
