Are you kidding? When this pope came on the scene it was like a splash of fresh water. His policies draw people that are into being the church. No way I can say that without sounding like... Well, me.
It is alarming that there are some in the evangelical community who are being slain in the spirit in the pope's presence like a young girl at an Elvis concert. There are leaders in the evangelical community who are all shook up over this and have issued statements/articles chastising the brethren.
I listened to his address to Congress because I wanted to hear what he had to say...I guess because of the times, if any of this makes sense.
His appeal to the undiscerning is simply that they are undiscerning. They are caught up in his show of humility and soft spoken manner, thinking this equals spirituality.
To see Rick Warren in awe of this should surprise no one.
I was moved in emotion at one point, and hold on before y'all leap before you read...
It wasn't the Pope who moved me to tears, but Sen. John Boehner weeping on the balcony of the Capital Building that stirred me...I cried because as a Catholic, for HIM, this was probably the most spiritual moment he has ever experienced. He was in the presence of the one HE and billions of others believe is the Vicor of Christ
We of course know this to be false, but for this man it is very real. I thought of the zillions of times I have wept in the presence of the One and only true and living God...as recently as this morning in prayer.
How grateful I am for the knowledge of who He is, and Whose I am. That is not said in a manner that bespeaks superiority, but with a deep understanding that it could have been the other way.
It could have been me lining the streets shouting the praises of a man...just a man that they believe is elected to "stand inn the shoes of the fisherman." It could have been Sen. Boehner born into my Apostolic Pentecostal home, 3rd gen and thankful beyond words for my heritage.
I guess I'm rambling and hijacking the thread this afternoon, but my heart aches for a man who, unless someone reaches him with the Word of truth, will never know what weeping in the presence of true Majesty is.

Not sure if this makes sense to anyone...
Excellent post, Barb. As a former Catholic, I could realize what Boehner felt.

Thanks, PO...
Today it became ever more real to me how easy it can be to take what we have been given so freely for granted. How many times in my almost 64 years in and around the Church have I lifted my hands while my mind was far from true worship? I was in the presence of the Lord and not even 'there'...
I can understand with Boehner being Catholic and the Pope being there, he was under a lot of emotion, as was stated.
Of course, Boehner weeps at making par at the Congressional country club. Seriously, the guy is a perpetual fountain of tears. I've heard of people who have a stroke and it causes the "Pseudobulbar affect" which, among other things, can cause "reflex crying." Sometimes I wonder if Boehner's had a stroke which caused that issue.
