I all for studying, but IF I had to chose between someone who studied vs someone who prayed more, I would choose the latter.
I think the more someone prays the fresher the Word will be. Because I think more prayer would lead to more reading/studying of the Word.

It is very dangerous when people try to go further in the Spirit than they do in the word.
There are movements that have been built in the name of the spirit, but because the lack biblical basis, they have become ship-wreck.
The word of faith movement is one example.

I don't believe you can go wrong in prayer, fasting and studying the Word. I truly believe the greater your prayer life the deeper you can get into the Word.
True prayer is a two-way line of communication. You listen as well. When you stop to listen He will guide you.
He will show you the error of your ways.
I personally believe anyone going in the wrong direction is going in their flesh, because the Spirit is NOT going to lead you astray.

I also think that in a message that's been prepared and studied for and prayed over ahead of time as it should be that God can move on the preacher, inspire him and he can speak "prophetically" in the middle of message designed to feed the flock.
This happened last week. My husband was at a conference and the afternoon speaker was delivering a message to a group of pastors and preachers that had been announced ahead of time.
In the middle of it without missing a beat he looked at my husband and gave him a prophetic message that was right on. Then he kept on going with his message.
A few minutes later ....... again he addressed my husband and spoke prophetically to him again, and again he was right on.
That was shared just to provide example of what I'm saying here.

Let me guess the words!
"Return thy wife to bundage!!!"
"Thou shalt travel to the city of Bucchaneers and return to thy roots"

I don't consider it to be 'prophetic' preaching. I think I would call it anointed. God gives him direction by guiding him into what to teach or preach. I don't recall him ever saying he was prophesying when he preached.

There is a multiplicity of prophetic preaching. As it was stated before by Elder Epley that would was common place in the older days. Some people I know have done this before. With that being said, if someone is spending time in the word then I have no doubt that God can and will use people in this way.
I have only preached a few time over the years, but I can tell you that when I was ministering I felt the prophetic gifts come on me. I did not operate in them at that time. I had not gotten the ok from the pastor before hand and I did not want to be out of line. I did prophecy in the message, but not directly to individuals. I will be honest with you all though. I could not do that type of thing at this stange in my ministry. If that is what God directed then that is different. I would not have enough never to do that at this point.
