We do use scriptures when we teach the tithe.
I think you need to be reminded of the commandment that says
"You shall not raise a false witness against your neighbor"

God wants us to give, and certainly the NT is full of teaching on giving, but please show me since you say you teach out of the NT scriptures... where exactly in the epistles to the NT church that any of the writers explain a 10% tithe?

The video was very enlightening of how a liberal news would present christian tithing. I thought it was unbiased because it presented Russell Kelley's view and it also presented the charitable work being done in communities. Preachers need to stop extortioning and just start teaching. Giving has been expected of God's people all through the Bible in many different ways, but in the NT it is supposed to be done freely. Tithing is good and should be taught as "a" method of good stewardship but not demeaning or trying to scare those who don't. Only God can judge individual circumstances.

The point is... when we give freely as we have purposed in our hearts, even in times of need, it is often a greater sacrifice than another tithing out of their abundance.

Maybe if pastors focused less on becoming the next mega-church pastor... they'd realize that the body will give to meet needs as the Spirit leads... not greeds.
