Good to know you weren't; however, you've used other tragedies, namely the OK tornados, to make a political point. My one comment didn't bring politics into the conversation. It was meant to make sure no libs did.

You would rather this 9 year old girl be ripped from her family and taken as a ward of the state? As much as I fault the parents here, taking the girl away is extreme.
I would imagine you or your wife did something stupid while raising your kid(s), we all have. Sure, it likely didn't result in someone losing their life, but the parents will have to live with this regret the rest of their life.

Re: Nine year old kills instructor
No need for a political statement is right.
What we need is action to curtail unnecessary tragedies like this from happening in the future.
We always tend to learn AFTER the fact-- common sense would have prevented this from happening in the first place!

Legislation!
We need to make a good effort to legislate stupidity away so that people do not have an excuse!

Re: Nine year old kills instructor
At what point during the minutes leading up to that tragedy did someone think, "Yeah! That's a great idea! Give a nine year old girl a loaded uzi!"
They should fine the dead man for being stupid!
The parents-- charge them with negligent homicide, 3rd degree murder, 4th degree manslaughter, reckless endangerment of a child, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and any other stupid law already on the books and then we need to add one more stupid law to the books to discourage this kind of stupidity!
Make it against the law to allow nine year old little girls to handle loaded uzis!
That should teach 'em-- but it probably won't!
Special kinds of stupid can only be taken care of by special kinds of measures that I don't feel comfortable openly supporting.

Re: Nine year old kills instructor
"Now students, today is Show and Tell day. Who will be the first to make their presentation?"
Some of the students shift in their seats nervously, but Suzy's left hand shoots straight into the air as she uses her right hand to dig around in her backpack. She can hardly curtail her excitement.
"Okay Suzy! What did you bring to show and tell us about today?"
"My Daddy doesn't know I brought this to school today but he says, "Every child should know how to handle a loaded uzi.""
"What?!" The teacher exclaims and looks in horror as Suzy removes the killing machine from her backpack.

Re: Nine year old kills instructor
I'm just guessing these statements are mostly in jest and not to be taken seriously. But, since I can't be sure, I'll respond as though they are to be taken seriously.

More legislation? Really? You can't legislate stupidity or the whole administration and Congress (Dems and Reps) would be found guilty and in jail.

Too soon. I agree he should have refused to allow this girl to shoot a fully automatic uzi, but it's his choice.

No more laws. We have plenty. I wouldn't be against reckless endangerment charges though. Negligent homicide, 3rd/4th degree manslaughter, etc is a bit much.

I'll just keep my mouth shut on that statement and not say who I believe it relates to. LoL

These parents are guiltily of child endangerment no matter what the local police are saying and also refusing to charge these idiots.
One could hope there would be someone in this poor 9 year old's family that are not idiots who could raise her.

Wow defending these idiots by saying responsible parents must have done stupid things while raising their children.

Believe it or not, the police have to follow the law. If they're not charging the parents, it's probably because they can't. Also, typically the prosecutor will review deaths like this to see if any laws were violated.

I'm not defending them. While I don't know the state statutes, I would be for child endangerment charges if applicable. What they did was irresponsible and wrong.
Here's the deal...you're going to go on with your life as you know it. They can't. They have to not only deal with their regret and feeling they personally caused the death of a man...but they also have to deal with a traumatized 9-year-old girl, who will likely have nightmares of this event for years to come.
Nothing you can wish for them will be worse than that.

Maybe not, but they need to be held accountable in a court of law and maybe they should have their parental rights revoked.
This was a GRAVE lack of judgment!
