After the war he was alleged to have participated in the founding of the Ku Klux Klan. Despite rumors that he was the first Grand Wizard of the Klan, the Congressional investigation of the Klan in 1871, which included several former Confederate generals, undertaken by Radical Republicans concluded that Forrest did not found the Klan, was not its leader, did not participate in its activities and worked to have it disbanded.

After the Civil War, Forrest lent his name to a group of enforcers of the Democratic Party known as the Ku Klux Klan. Disenchanted with the activities of the group he ordered it to disband in 1869, which did not happen. The Klan and Forrest went separate ways but the stigma of his days as slave trader, the Fort Pillow incident and his brief association with the Klan would forever raise questions about one of America's greatest tactical minds.

Yes and Yes.
In fact, the NAACP was started by 6 whites and 1 black and there are plenty of whites who continue to donate to the NAACP to this day.

The NAACP is not the black people equivalent of the kkk-- despite what some would like to suggest.

To compare the NAACP to the KKK is silly, but I do feel that the NAACP does more to hurt blacks than it does to advance them.

Because the NAACP is so aligned with the Democrat Party and even the left-wing Progressive movement, I agree it's hurt more than helped. Not to mention, it has done more recently to inflame racial tensions than to promote peace and good will.
