It's a valid question though. Can someone start a WET and not be called racist? Why or Why not?

How about a White University? Would that fly? It's a valid question because the "theme" is "equality" when it comes to races. That means making all things equal.

Not too sure about when BET was started, but re universities, my understanding is that some were founded pre-Civil War era...to name one, Wilberforce I think was founded in 1850s.

I personally feel that referring to the black folks as "African Americans" makes them somehow less American than white folks. Of course, I'm speaking as a white girl, but if I were black, I'd want to be referred to as black, not African.

My ancestry is of the Heinz variety, but I don't want to be referred to as German-Indian.

I'm American. I'm white. I'm caucasian. You can even call me a Ritz if you like.

Most black people in the country, like most white people in this country, were born here and raised here and have never left. I see no reason to isolate them or make them less American by referring to them as being from Africa.

Yes and so were some white universities and other institutions as well as "all male" institutions that all have come down do to "equality"

Yes and my point is, it does not matter if we are discussing all things being equal NOW.

No I'd have them be like all other institutions in America are being called to become..EQUAL

I do not and never will understand the racism in your country. I am not a US citizen and where I was raised over in Europe and still today , racism is not a big issue there. I am part black ( my dad's side ) and German/Hungarian (my mum's side) and look more like I am black/Hispanic even tho there is no Hispanic in my family :-) But growing up in a very diverse family, I never knew "segregation" and all the mess about what some Americans do and act over ones skin color. Both of my kids, born US citizens but Bi-racial , daughter married a white man and my son dates only Asian~ My son attended for a time, LeMoyne-Owen College while living in the south (the south was a nightmare) and their were a few whites there. I cant really wrap my mind around a time (in US) where they lynched blacks.....for NOTHING! As for some of us blacks being called African.....my husband is black and he will correct that real quick......only bc he says he is not from Africa and none of his family was either. My son goes by black and my daughter , the same. My daughter looks of the lighter skin (high yellow) and my son Mocha skin. I do not have any white in my family outside of my son-in-law and the new baby due in Oct. I feel you should be able to attend any school of your choice no matter your ethnicity!!!! Everything should be equal bc in Gods eyes it is!!!
