Hmmm. I'm really surprised by the ho-hum reaction. Is it really not important to discern true or false tongues? Is the example I gave relevant, at all? If that guy had not been stopped and counseled (or counseled later), isn't there a pretty good chance he would still be lost, today? Hey, if I had been counseled when I faked my HG baptism, I may have gotten saved, too. Who knows?

If tongues are the "initial evidence", shouldn't it matter whether the evidence is real or not, and detectable as such?

I was hoping for more discussion, but OK. Guess it's not an important issue, after all.

I have my ideas on why, now. Not surprised, anymore, but maybe I should keep my thoughts to myself.

Maybe I'll go ahead and vote now. That may spur some discussion!

That's interesting! I do note the smilie, but I would like to know what you mean here, if there's a serious meaning. Do you mean that, though the tongues are real -- in the sense that it is a true heavenly language -- that the speaker can be over zealous in some way in the delivery? Too much enthusiasm, or too loud, or too ... what?

OK, I voted.

Thought about also checking the "i have no idea" box, and it's true that I have no way of knowing for sure, but it's based on my belief.

By the way, I misworded one of the choices. The third one (I can always tell when it's real) was supposed to be the analogous choice to "fakes never get by me", but it's too strong. Oh well.

Timmy, how do you think the first church discerned between fake and real tongues? If it's possible to fake it today would it not be possible to fake it then?
