Re: Ex-Apostolic Friends Forum?

Let us all look toward Jesus as our example and not the word Apostolic.

Re: Ex-Apostolic Friends Forum?

I'm not trying to be apostolic, don't even scripture that says to do so.

Re: Ex-Apostolic Friends Forum?

You cannot take Christ out of Christianity or the whole thing collapses.
You can take the founder out of any other religion and it won't really matter - whether that's JWs, or Islam, or Buddhists - their principles or teaching will carry on regardless.
But since Christianity is based on a PERSON rather than principles or teaching or rules, regulations and works...
...... you take out the Founder, and it's done.
All of it.

Here... If you take Christ out of "Christian" all you have left is Ian and he cannot save you.

Re: Ex-Apostolic Friends Forum?

the word apostolic means the apostles teachings. even the catholi church declares themselves apostolic.

apostilic def.

ap·os·tol·ic/ˌapəˈstälik/

Adjective:

1.Of or relating to the Apostles.
2.Of or relating to the pope, esp. when he is regarded as the successor to St. Peter.

so the word in itself is a broad brush, cause i baptist could declare themselves as apostolic cause of the teachings that relate to the bible.

today it has become just a label,

These folks considered themselves Apostolic long before we ever tried to redefine the term

yeppers,

1. a few minutes ago I was looking at a picture (in a book) of the ordination certificate of Howard Goss. The name of the organization is The Apostolic Faith Movement. It was signed August 26, 1906 by W.F. Carothers and Charles E. Parham

2. In late 1906/early 1907, Francis Crawford moved from Los Angeles where she had been ministering with William Seymour to Portland, Oregon and established an organization called The Apostolic Faith Mission. That group still has their headquarters there and has churches in various parts of the world.

3. Apostolic Faith Mission of South Africa (AFM) is a classical Pentecostal Christian denomination in South Africa. With 1.2 million adherents, it is South Africa's largest Pentecostal church and the fifth largest religious grouping in South Africa representing 7.6 percent of the population. It is also a member of the South African Council of Churches. It is one of the oldest Pentecostal movement is South Africa with its roots in the Azusa Street Mission...

So, here are three examples of people who call themselves "Apostolic" and they don't fit in doctrinally with the narrow interpretation of that word that some of us use today.

Re: Ex-Apostolic Friends Forum?

In my opinion, whomever started this forum yrs ago.. (Jim Y.?). What he had in mind of what an Apostolic was.. Is what the forum should use as a general outline or definition of what a Oneness Pentecostal Apostolic is.
My 2 cents.

Re: Ex-Apostolic Friends Forum?

I thought this was a discussion forum, a place for people to express ideas and hash them out. I apologize to those who are offended with views that are different from their own.
