Re: Christmas morning
We are not having service..which is fine by me as we have a 45min drive to get there, and Christmas morning is hectic. We will (as we always do) emphasize that morning as a celebration of Christ..we will spend that time together as family.
I must say, a candle light Christmas Eve service sounds pretty awesome though!

Re: Christmas morning
Our church is not having service as the 5/6 of the congregation is going to be out of town on that day, including the pastor. However, we will be down at relatives, and as the church that my uncle pastors will be having a Sunday morning service, my parents will be there, and I am going to give it a really good try. Service will start at 1100, so I hope that will be plenty of time.

What happened to Christ being the reason for the season?

Does one have to attend church to make Christ the reason for the season? Or can a family worship in their own home?

Re: Christmas morning
Our church usually does the following on Sunday morning:
Bible Class from 9:30 to 10:00
Breakfast (about 100 people show up) from 10:00 to 10:30
Morning service from 10:30 to noon.
It is my understanding that there will only be one short service at 10:30, maybe a Christmas play. I'm not planning on being there.
Christmas to me is a family thing.
We will have about 23 people here Christmas Eve. (children, spouses, fiances, grandchildren, etc.)
Next day the children do their own thing with their children and some other relatives.
We will probably sleep late Christmas day and maybe go visit a place or two.

Re: Christmas morning
I'm not sure what the schedule is... we'll be at the oldest son's beach house with the grandkids. Flipflops in the sand, tamales and a cook out for Christmas.

Saturday evening service at 5:30 and no Sunday Services. Pastor says enjoy time with your family.
Normal Sunday services are at 9AM and 11AM with @ 700 in attendance in each service.

That actually surprises me. I thought one of the big hallmarks of the UPC was their New Years eve foot washing services.
