"Chris Matthews!?!"

Dude, cut the cable!

But seriously, I can imagine someone going back to "no TV" out of "convictions" or "standards" - I just don't know anyone. Most of the people I know have gone from a "No TV" to a disciplined sort of television viewing.

Again, I can imagine someone going overboard and getting a TV and watching only the Pay-To-View porn and rotting their minds on sap, but I don't know of anyone who has.

Very, very few have descended into the depths of watching MSNBC, though. Pray for these unfortunate souls for they indeed have lost their way.

It is really a matter of convictions and personal holiness.
The UPC can ban TV all they want but tv is not going to go away.

I said this years ago when the Internet was first becoming available to the general public. Of course the idea of watching "TV" over a dial up connection was far from reality (and still is).

For myself, I need Closed Captioning. That's something that isn't available on Netflix or generally anywhere else "online." Netflix has advertised themselves as having it available and that suckered me into saying "Yes" to sign us up. Now, I find out that it was a false claim, at least after year, it has proved to be false. My kids at college or overseas use the Netflix account from time-to-time so I have kept it. For me however, I still need good ol' Cable TV.

That's a point I've had circulating in the back of my head from day one. So many followers of the "no-TV-but-internet-is-okay" do strictly as they are told (since the scripture used is "I will set no evil before mine eyes") and don't have or watch TV. Yet, something like the internet contains so much more for so much less, it's no wonder certain people haven't awoken from such nonsense...

But, I'll give the benefit of the doubt since I'm sure some have had to do a little growing up the hard way --they find out that it's more of the substance of what's viewed as opposed to the object displaying what's being viewed...

Re: Return to "standards/notv"?

I can say yes to this one.

A family that goes to our church plugged the TV up to cable for about 6 or 7 months. Then cut the cable again. He admitted he was not a good steward of it. He plays online gaming for maybe an hour a day or so. I have several tv's in my home, I don't have a problem with it, but if I had a game in my home I could play online, it would destroy me. It did.

The reality was they had just backslid away from God and started doing some of the things liberals do but for completely different reasons and not because they really believed they were ok to do. It was dishonest of them to portray
their backslidden state as one of becoming a liberal.

The only case of someone going lib and going back to at least semi conservative is a former poster her and her husband who were UPC pastors that left the UPC. Later joined a liberal org., pastored one or two liberal churches, then went back to the UPC. This was not in the United States and we don't need to discuss who this is or specifics as they are very sensitive about the subject. They don't need any waves interfering with their re-found bundage.
They are back home doing well. I am thankful. Tis time for YOU.

Television free for nearly 50 years and not missed a thing. Gunsmoke and I Love Lucy was on when I got into the church. Said by to Lucy and Matt nearly a half century ago.

I have NEVER watched a Hollywood program, news broadcast, television program on the internet. I have conversed with you "Father forgive me for I have sinned."

Re: Return to "standards/notv"?

You know, UC used to preach against Radios just like they do TV's. But now every UC preacher has a radio.

I think it has always been about the content, not the media.
