IRS or any other entity. I was talking about cash - off the books.

I don't think most people report more than their W-2.

Re: Pocketing Cash

I can't say I have never done it - because I know I have. However, I think one can shoot themselves in the foot in this area. I firmly believe one can limit their tax liability legally with probably less effort than trying to hide cash.

You are probably right. The profit on the car they fixed up and sold or the extra money from the cash baby sitting job often gets overlooked.

Anyone ever pocketed cash without reporting? Anyone NOT ever pocketed cash?

How about you pastors? Ever took cash from the offering to buy groceries?

What? No pastors wanting to take advantage of this confessional??

I hear you... "It's none of your business! That's what altars are for."

Re: Pocketing Cash

I had an audit once, and I was asked if my father and I ever help each other out... I kept calm, but I wanted to say, "yeah, my people routinely have had barn raisings for each other the last 400 years."

Re: Pocketing Cash

When we were pastoring, we never, ever took money that wasn't ours. When we left Home Missions, we had credit card debt that we used to help pay some bills but the church money was the church money and our money was our money and never the twain shall meet.

As a matter of fact, asking questions about this type of thing where we went later is what caused the big hoopla we went through.
