The pharmaceutical would have to be proved. Perry also supports Lance Armstrong's Cancer Center in Austin. His parents are cancer survivors. It makes him passionate on the subject. I'm sure the healthcare costs on the reports he is getting from the CDC would have something to do with it. A Governor is supposed to fix things and that is what he was trying to do. My neighbor just went through cancer treatment as she has cervical cancer.
We need to understand that one of the reasons he wanted to make the vaccination mandatory is that otherwise insurance would not cover it, and the $360 total cost would have been prohibitive for many families.
Perry wrote his Executive Order, putting it on the mandated list so as to get it paid for for those that wanted it, he turned around in the next sentence and put the responsibility back into the hands of the parents where it belongs,
with an opt out…or if you want to play on semantics, an opt in.
His EO clearly states:
Quote:
Parents’ Rights. The Department of State Health Services will, in order to protect the right of parents to be the final authority on their children’s health care, modify the current process in order to allow parents to submit a request for a conscientious objection affidavit form via the Internet while maintaining privacy safeguards under current law.

Bachmann never railed on the vaccinations which are
mandatory in HER state, including immunization for Hepatitis B – a disease that is contracted through behavior.
Minnesota doesn’t even offer a parental opt-out.
She said she was offended for the little girls "forced" to take the vaccination. No one was forced and not one shot was given because the policy was not enforced. She needs to stop lying.
Bachman needs to get her facts straight about the targeted age group regarding the "little girls" instead of just being hysterical over the age group:
Quote:
The American Academy of Pediatrics, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the American Academy of Family Physicians all recommend that girls receive HPV vaccine around age 11 or 12. That’s because this is the age at which the vaccine produces the best immune response in the body.

It looks like it is a huge healthcare issue and not just for Texas:
Quote:
Debate is heating up about whether or not to require girls to be vaccinated against Human Papillomavirus (HPV), which causes virtually all cases of cervical cancer and genital warts. This flurry of state activity stems from the June 2006 recommendation by the national Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) that routine vaccination is recommended for girls between ages 11 and 12.
Since 2006, legislators in at least 41 states and D.C. have introduced legislation to require the vaccine, fund or educate the public about the HPV Vaccine and at least 20 states have enacted legislation, including Colorado, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Virginia and Washington.

We are going to have two camps bickering and arguing - pro-vaccine crowd and the anti-vaccine crowd. I am proud to live in a state that allows me an opt out, or again, an opt in, if you want to play on semantics.
Very simple to request:
And, yes, Perry made a mistake and owned up to it. Romney still defends his
"mandatory" healthcare policy while going after Perry on the Gardasil issue. And Bachmann is happy with her
"mandatory" vaccines in her state that does not give you an opt out. Total hypocrisy.
After all of this, I think we had best focus on the economy and who would best pull us out of this hole we are in. Perry has a record and good policy (Loser pay, etc.) in place for doing that very thing. Let's not get distracted by an issue that has already been settled.
