It teaches that in a church meeting/group, usually, not everyone has the gift of tongues.

I can prove this is not always true though. I can take from a congregation those that have the gift and put them together in a room and tell them to "have church" and clearly this means that everyone does have the gift

In order for the statement to be true the it has to be universally appealing. In the universal church, not everyone has the gift of tongues

  1. There is One God. This one God reveals Himself distinctly as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
  2. The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
  3. Every sinner must repent of their sins.
  4. That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
  5. That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
  6. The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

How about that all of these were OT people?

Ministry of Apollos- doesnt mention tounges

24 Now a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man and mighty in the Scriptures, came to Ephesus. 25 This man had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit, he spoke and taught accurately the things of the Lord, though he knew only the baptism of John. 26 So he began to speak boldly in the synagogue. When Aquila and Priscilla heard him, they took him aside and explained to him the way of God more accurately. 27 And when he desired to cross to Achaia, the brethren wrote, exhorting the disciples to receive him; and when he arrived, he greatly helped those who had believed through grace; 28 for he vigorously refuted the Jews publicly, showing from the Scriptures that Jesus is the Christ.

Re: Do All Speak With Tongues?

The truth of the matter is this. Christians in Charismatic and Pentecocostal churches tend to speak in tongues more than Christians in non Charismatic and Pentecostal churches. Beyond that I'm not sure that it means there is more or less Jesus in either grouping.

Acerrak,
Have you ever spoke in tongues as the Spirit gave the utterance. Just a
question.

I would think that Jesus was a NT Person. At least His blood was NT.

Re: Do All Speak With Tongues?

I think what Deke is getting at is the idea which has become more and more common among OP's which equates "speaking in tongues" with "being born again" - that is, "being saved." "Speaking in tongues" has become the pinnacle of our salvation experience. Either our converts get in the mosh pit and deliver an acceptable performance or we label them as "not saved."

Perhaps, "not saved ... yet" - for we will not stop the back massages, the forceful shouts into their ears nor the exchange of spittle in the excited uproar that is "praying through" until we see a satisfactory result. All of this labor and effort is required to receive a free gift from Someone who cared enough that He gave His own life to make this gift available?

It seems unreasonable to me. Yet, the mosh pit is what we demand.
