How is that not biblical? Because a sermon wasn't preached?

Peter preached 3000 were added to the church.
Do you honestly agree with the methods that guy is using? I have seen these soul winner bootcamp deals where they baptize people in the parks. I think his motives are sincere and he is working hard for God but is that really winning souls?
Repentance is not saying a prayer.

No I don't totally agree with everything he teaches. I agree with the action he is using by going out everyday and talking to people and trying to lead them to a new birth change in Christ. Is he winning souls? Well this isn't all he does. HE advocates a very hands on approach of discipleship even in the first week after they are compelled to be baptized. I'm not sure the apostles compelled folks to repent and be baptized before they heard the gospel but all I know is this works and people will go with you to the water and will repeat (sometimes seemingly earnest (who are we to judge?) a pray of repentance and get in the water and then sometimes they do come out and speak in tongues. Bro. Downs teaches that if you don't see them repent and be baptized and seek for the Spirit, you haven't won a soul. I don't agree but the point of the thread is how do you guys see this?
The only way to know if people are truly being change is to look 6 months down the road and see how many are there. This method has the window to grow a church VERY fast. I think within the first week atlanta hope center has baptized around 20 and has seen some experience the hg infilling like acts 2.
What do ye think?
No repentance is not just a prayer, but what is wrong with it including one?
We did a summer bible vacation school and at one service had around 70 kids come to the front and pray and many of them stay around praying even longer, seeking the Lord. I will never forget that experience. Fruit may not immediately appear but there is a seed planted that won't easily be forgotten.

They do not advertise the church or any of the programs (in fact there are no programs), there is no organized outreach or church growth plan in place yet they have been deeded over 10 million in church facilities by two other churches who wanted them to take over.
The lead pastor is dead set against building a mega church but with 12,000 on the weekends they don't know what to do about space issues. As of now, the plan is to focus on church plants and seven have been planted so far.
Last month 280,000 was given to missions.
I really don't think church growth methods are the way to go. Preach the gospel and feed christ sheep and the people will show up.

I agree with what you say.
I am a friend of Tims. I have contributed to his new work and have been a fan for awhile now.
He is a STRONG 3 stepper, by strong I mean borderline militant about it. I am a squishy 1 stepper... however I have been a fan and a friend because he is out there winning folks.
He is the real deal if you know his personal story. He contacted the Atlanta police and asked what the hardest crime ridden ghetto area was, and then he planted his church right in the middle of a super high crime area. As growing churches move out to the suburbs to "get the money folks" there is a HUGE need for churches that are willing to plant in the inner city. Many of the folks he reaches need bus/van ministry to reach the church or walk there from their home.
They guy has rolled the dice and is going where NO sane white church planter would ever go. Gotta give him credit.

Yes we do and I believe we can learn from his efforts, even if we don't agree with everything. His plea is for us to get out and do something. But I like to do things that truly works, not waste time and money on those that don't. Our block party here in Lexington in 08 we had around 200 guests, 8 baptized, and one got the holy ghost. I used the Heaven and Hell approach at the "altar" call we had in the park. Suffice to say only one truly stayed. It does work but its not something you can only use to build a church.
I read about his trying to find Billy Graham's house to give him Tim's Bible Study. Inspired me so much that I stood at a town festival in the state of NC and handed them to people as they left and even left one on the AOG's church door in the handle. lol

I don't question his sincerity. Something wonderful happens in the christian life when we go and work with those who need it the most. Usually there is great change in the minister along with those who need the gospel. We are to be the hands and feet of Christ.
God changed my life through working with the worst among us. It is hard. You don't always see results and it is heartbreaking when they fall back into sin over and over. Frankly, I had to get out. I have two young children and I realized I had to get to a place where my family was stronger before I went back to that type of ministry. That is one of the reasons I moved far away to a little suburban town where life very different and peacful. There is still ministry here though.
