It isn't either/or. Both are true.
It reminds me of Howard Hughes in some ways. He was also both an engineering and business genius who ended up a complete wacko in his later years.

We've had discussions as to whether Solomon (or Shlomo as some call him) went to hell or if he repented in his later years. Someone once said that Solomon wrote the Song of Solomon when he was young and in love; he wrote the book of Proverbs when he was middle aged and had gained wisdom; and he wrote the Book of Ecclesiastes when he was a bitter old man. It is my opinion that Solomon renewed his fellowship with his Heavenly Father in his latter years. This is based on the last words of his writings, the 12th chapter of Ecclesiastes, especially the last two verses.

One name I have never heard used before; Solomon. Why?
We teach, preach, and use this man's writings to advise ourselves and others, but won't use his name for our Children. Is it because we don’t like the fact that he was a Whoremonger? An Idolater? A total Backslider?
If his name is not worthy of being used to name our own Children, and his actions portray an unrighteous finale’ which would cause Apostolics to conclude him as being a complete Backslider and even lost, why in the World do we support his words of wisdom in Scripture?
If you disagree, name your next Child, Solomon.

I know 3 or 4 Solomons. My daughter would have been Solomon if she had been a boy.

Sam, it is also my opinion that Solomon was not lost based on the following scripture:
2 Samuel 7
12And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom.
13He shall build an house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom for ever.
14I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men:
15 But my mercy shall not depart away from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before thee.
Solomon backslid big time, but God told David that he will not take away his mercy as he took it away from Saul. So I believe he repented later in his life.
Talk about amazing grace!!!

Hebrews 11:32 I kinda like Barak. Sounds very presidential.

I've seen people named Solomon. Never met anyone named Notfor, though.

I'm not so sure Solomon repented. I Kings 11 spells things out pretty clear. This one verse reveals that his drift from God came when he was old.
For it came to pass, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods: and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as was the heart of David his father.
I do feel though, that God's mercy was abudant to this man even though he was deceived.
