"Eis" in Greek is as ambiguous as "for" is in English.
It can mean "in order to obtain" and it can mean "because of"
like the old Western Reward Poster
Wanted
Dirty Dalton
for (because of) bank robbery.
See local U.S. Marshall
for (in order to obtain) reward.
There have been many posts here parading quotes from Greek Experts by those who see it either way. The "Experts" don't agree.
We can't "prove" anything by just the use of
Acts 2:38.
We have to take the body of Scripture and interpret
Acts 2:38 by it.
And even here Christians don't all agree among ourselves.
Some say water baptism properly administered with the correct words invoked washes away sin. Some say remission of sin is different than forgiveness/pardon of sin. Some believe water baptism cleanses just like holy water and pagan purification rites. Some say water baptism is a symbolic cleansing but does not actually wash away or remove any sin. This is one of those things that Christians don't agree on.
