Re: I Was Wrong!
Indeed Brother Hoover.
I was once convinced of all I believed. I had the doctrine and I knew it all. I have since found that I didn't have it right enough times that I can now say I am free to learn.
There is nothing I hold that is beyond revisiting. Truth will always last. I just don't my thought that I am right keep me from learning anything He has for me to learn.
I was wrong. And I'm a happier person now that I realize that.

Re: I Was Wrong!
From birth, my thoughts and world views were shaped by family, church and close friends. I had developed pillars of "truth" that I could build everything else in my life on.
When I got a little older and wiser, I figured out that some of the pillars of "truth" were mere assumptions that I had never personally researched and proved to be absolute truths.
"I was wrong" is one of the hardest phrases to say to others. It's humbling to admit that one has made judgments that were based on mis-information or assumptions. Kudos to Hoovie!
It is true that when you realize that you were wrong in one area, it causes you to research and question other areas. I find it very liberating to realize that I was RIGHT in some areas!!

Have you changed your beliefs on something you very adamantly were convinced of in days gone by? Wow! I know I have. It seems life has a way humbling a person. It could be theology or otherwise but it seems we are all on a journey that is shaped by our life experiences - including of course, our experience with the Lord Jesus.
Just the thought... Just knowing I am not what I will be in ten or twenty years is humbling to me. Not that I desire to be fluid in my beliefs or throw caution to the wind at all. But I know that even theologians and scholars are growing, learning and even changing beliefs on things throughout their lifetime.
Help me Lord to stay sober minded. In 2011 May I become humble knowing my weakness is great. May I refrain from judging my fellow man harshly. Amen.

In essentials, unity; in non-essentials, liberty; in all things, charity. Let's be more students and less professors. The disciples sat at the feet of Jesus and listened to His words. They did not know everything. No man on earth has a solid grip on every dot and tittle of the truth.
Be humbled, be correctable, and stay repentant.

Obviously, you're new here. There are several on AFF who know everything.

Re: I Was Wrong!
Have been wrong numerous times in my 67 years. One thing that I have always considered in admitting that I was wrong about something was to not change just to be changing. If I've got something wrong I don't want to change to another wrong.
Sometimes it seems there are those on AFF who approach certain subjects with the attitude of "there is no way that I can be wrong!" They seem to refuse to even consider what someone else has to say.
Kinda like Peter, Mt 26:33* "Peter answered and said unto him, Though all men shall be offended because of thee, yet will I never be offended." And yet he was so offended (and wrong) he denied the Lord 3 times even to the point of cursing.
I could be wrong..... but get a hold of yourself, you could be too!
Happy New Year
