There are some advantages to the old style pulpit.
You can lean on it if you are tired.
People can't see if your fly is open, or if your pants clash with your shirt, or if you don't have on socks or if your socks don't match.

Going back to talking about the use of a lap top in the pulpit, in my opinion it is really up to the person. If it helps them deliver their thoughts easier, I have no problem with it at all. We all have personal preferences, and preachers do too-we all can't fit in one mold.

I've not seen a laptop on the pulpit but I've seen a "preacher" read his notes that were probably evidence of the ease of google searches.
