Re: Offended by the World
Baron, do you really want response to your question or are you trying to prove a point?
It really seems to me that you did not ask this and want honest response, but you asked this to pursue a personal agenda.
Which category would you put different groups in our culture in?
Jews, Mormons, Baptists, etc...
Not to even mention non-religious associations.

How about a personal witness, when someone asks you "What's different about you?".

I have no agenda. I am simply asking questions and observing and commenting on the responses.
Some Jews withdraw from culture, others become part of culture, I know baptist that are more legalistic and withdrawn from culture than many UPC people. The answers people give just seem to naturally indicate where they are on the spectrum regardless of where they claim to be.

What would make them ask such a thing? Is it because we drive a horse and buggy and wear a beard?

Ok, thanks for the response.
I am sorry for assuming you were not really asking the question!

Hopefully they ask because they see something that is different about us than what they are encountering in the culture.

The teaching on holiness causes many to withdraw from culture. They force their women to dress an look differently from the rest of culture and call it holiness.

Not even close...there are aspects of our culture that I will have nothing to do with....but there are many areas that are beneficial.....this is where discernment comes in.
I would imagine that you would think my lovely daughters should dress like streetwalkers like so many do to be relevant...
Sorry...not going to happen....my daughters can can be fashionable and dress well without compromising their values.

Are we different because we wear too short pants and a pocket protector? Could other groups have dress up night and say come as a ____________ and everyone knows what they are talking about?
How is it that we engage culture that would make someone ask anything?

This isn't the first time you have mentioned dressing your daughters as streetwalker....I think that may be unique to your mindset and culture because no one I know wants their daughters dressed like streetwalkers.
