My daughter and I were in hysterics on the phone last night when I told her I was going to post this on AFF!! When she was telling me this story about giving her the medicine, she had to SPELL the word CANDY. I asked her, what would happen if you said the word? She said that the LITTLE PITT BULL would tear the kitchen apart looking for the TREASURE!
As an outsider, this temperament is great. It sure beats a child that is passive and lethargic.

To me, this seems exactly like God saying "If you eat of the fruit of the tree you will surely die." As a human I would naturally assume that God meant I would physically die, but turns out he meant something else. You're daughter says it's candy in order to convey the fact that it tastes like candy, but actually its something else. *shrug* Seems pretty similar to me.
I'm not so sure that's the same thing. She is telling her it's CANDY because the little one LOVES CANDY, and then swallows the medicine with no gripes.

My daughter may have aquired this form of deceiving her children because of me, as I did tell them things when they were young....

She really is a great kid, and has no problem being the life of the party!

(Especially after her CANDY rush!)

She gobbles up the medicine and is getting well. If she tells her it's medicine, it's over. Prying her mouth open is like trying to open the jaws of a Pitt Bull!!

We laughed about this, but it's still a LIE! According to some, ALL liars will go to that "Other Place". When I was a Catholic, we called these, "White Lies".

What's interesting, EVERYONE lies! So we are ALL liars. I guess we're ALL going to that "Other Place".
It could be considered lying. I know nurses that will lie to confused patients, but I can't do it.

Re: My Daughter Lied!!

There are times the lesser evil is justified by the greater good.

The Bible is replete with examples.

The classic debate one- is it wrong to lie to prevent an innocent person from being murdered?

Even the strictest sect of Rabbis believed that there were only three commandments for which there could never be an exception and must be obeyed to the point of death.

This is interesting. I've heard the story about a nurse who was told to be very careful how she responded to an Alzheimer patient. The patient would wait every day for the return of their spouse. It was up to the nurse to respond with a "Yes" or "No". No meant the spouse didn't come, and yes meant they had come.

The Yes answer brought great relief to the patient, leading to a happy day and the anticipation of tomorrow.

A No answer sent this patient into utter depression, hopelessness, and grief.

The problem was, the spouse was dead, but in the mind of this person was the ability to believe they actually came with a simple, Yes, they were here.

This happened extensively during the Holocaust.
