Re: Most Recent UPCI Stats

Since 1999 there is a net loss of -4 churches.

There are less churches in North America today than there was in 1999.

Re: Most Recent UPCI Stats

Quite another thing to interpret these numbers.

Here are some good questions to ask.

Of those who "left" how many would be perceived as being "more liberal" and how many "more conservative" than the UPC?

Is Oneness Pentecostalism on the rise or declining in general?

Is the UPC's rate of groweth/decline much different than the groweth/decline of US Christianity in general?

There were 258 daughter works 3 years ago. And the # has remained the same?

Can that be right?

Hoovie, not sure why you would couple "growth/decline" in your question?

It's plain that in more than a decade the org is stagnant in North America.

Why is that HMD?

Re: Most Recent UPCI Stats

One consideration that needs to be made is that in the last few years there has been a consolidation of churches over pretty much all denominations.

Many smaller churches have closed or merged with larger ones as families seek out churches large enough to offer their children and themselves fellowship, activities, etc smaller churches cannot.

I think the estimated total number of persons attending Sunday School would be a better measure of the UPCI's growth than the number of churches. Just my edjumacated guess.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

Is anyone asking about the other orgs, baptist, methodist etc? Growing? Shrinking? Staying the same?
