It will be a Community Center... with a mosque in it.
2 A huge number of leftists oppose it. So youer desparate attempt to make it a right left POLITICAL issue crumbles.
Yeah... there are crazies everywhere.
3 Since there are more than 30 mosques in the area, your freedom of religion doesn't hold water.
Since there are more than 30 mosques in the area... why is this one such a big deal?
4 Threats of being bit in the rear tells us it is not about freedom of religion at all. It is an act of in your face defiance and an insult.
Good grief. It is 2 blocks away and around the corner.
5 The word Islam is defined as submission. How ironic. We will submit or else.
*sigh*

It is an intelligent conversation and there is strong point that was made with my "Pew-jumping" statement. You DO realize that prejudice is out there, don't you? And if a mosque can be prevented from being built because people don't like muslims, a pentecostal church can be prevented just as easily.
See there? An intelligent point.

What is obvious is that you have not delved very far into this issue. It is more than simply a mosque being built. But, we have gone over this on several other threads and, apparently, we want "freedom of religion" and "freedom of speech" without any type of accountability involved.
All I can say is that Imam Rauf has done us a good deed by making more aware of what Sharia Law really does entail. Well, at least, for those that actually are really wanting to paying attention.

What accountabilities are you desiring to require for the exercise of these freedoms?

And you have not studied the background on this issue either or you wouldn't be asking this question.

And exactly how deep does the accountability go? Do you really want the United States Government have that kind of authority over who builds and who doesn't? Surely not.

Re: The Mosque Should Be Built!
Fundraisng sites in Brooklyn are unhandy. This would be like a better location and handier to raise money for terror.
Quote:
Al Farooq Mosque in Brooklyn, a six-story converted factory trimmed in orange and gold, has been many things to many people during its life: a mystery, a noisy neighbor, a source of suspicion, and, for thousands of Muslims who live or work along Atlantic Avenue, the main street of Arab Brooklyn, a place of worship.
Last week, the mosque became, not for the first time, a symbol of terror. A federal affidavit unsealed on Tuesday describes links between the mosque, several Brooklyn businessmen and a cleric in Yemen who, prosecutors say, claims to have funneled more than $20 million to Al Qaeda. "They did their fund-raising right here in our own backyard," Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly said.
